Seamstress

Jill, on June 17, 2019 at 12:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 4
My dress comes in next month and I am starting to think about finding a seamstress. Should I start contacting them now or do I wait until my dress comes in? I wasn’t sure how that is supposed to work. The proactive part of me wants to call now since I know they are going to be busy and booking up. I’m also thinking I don’t even have my dress yet. I didn’t see any other posts with this question, so maybe I am way over thinking this. Curious how everyone else handled this. Thanks!

I, actually, got my seamstress before I even bought my gown! My dress has a ton of detail with an entirely beaded and lace bodice and ruffled skirt. My mom wanted to make sure we could find someone that was comfortable altering a dress that detailed before I bought it. My seamstress is amazing! I don't think it's too early! You could always send a picture of the dress to the seamstresses to make sure they could alter your type of gown (that's what I did). Mine also gave me an estimate on alteration costs based on my picture. I had my first alterations appointment on Friday, and alterations were $15 cheaper than she originally estimated!

I would see if your shop offers it, or can recommend someone. My shop had a seamstress that I used, but technically she was a 3rd party as she has her own business that she bills from.

    Hi there Jill!

You can certainly start looking for a seamstress now, even though you don't have your dress yet. As Lauren mentioned, you can share a picture of the dress so he/she has an idea of what it looks like and if it's something they could work with.

Does the bridal store where you got your dress do alternations, or have someone they could recommend? They often do Smiley smile
