Sealing Glitter Shoes?

Abigail, on July 31, 2016 at 11:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 12

Ok, so I have these GREAT Betsey Johnson glitter heels to wear on my wedding day. The glitter is very tight and really doesn't fall off, but it catches somewhat on the inner liner of my dress. It doesn't catch enough to rip the dress or trip me up, but it just drives me crazy. I thought of sealing it with modge podge maybe, but I'm not so sure about that. I really just need an option that will smooth the surface of the shoe so it doesn't catch up on the dress fabric at all. Any suggestions would be so appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You can use glossy mode podge. For the shoes, a coating spray may be easier. You can find some on amazon.

I second the glossy mod podge. You'll lose a bit of the shine/sparkle, but if it's catching on the dress, you don't have much of a choice.

I wore Betsy Johnson glitter flats, so I know exactly what you mean. Good idea with the Mod podge.

Hairspray! I have glittery wedges for FSIL's wedding and sprayed them twice with extra strength hairspray. It worked perfectly.

I'm pretty sure I saw on Amazon a shoe sealing spray for this.

I used the Martha Stewart brand decoupage glue last time I did a glitter DIY and it worked amazing. It's also completely waterproof.

ADVICE FOR WOMEN WEARING GLITTER SHOES & LONG DRESSES: FORGET THE MODPODGE.

I used Krylon "Triple Thick Crystal clear glaze" aerosol spray on my daughter's prom shoes and got AMAZING results. You'll need a couple of days for best results, since an application of two coats needs 24 hrs to dry. Two coats is enough in a pinch, but the truly amazing results were with 4 coats total. (Two coats, about 15 minutes apart; wait 24 hrs; two more coats, about 15 min apart.)

IMPORTANT: Spray lightly each time. Too heavy a spray, e.g. too close to the shoes or too slow, will cause drips. (That's OK, since it dries clear, but you want it to be perfect.) DON'T WORRY if it looks like the spray is causing the glitter to disappear: It will dry clear.

Our story: My daughter's prom shoes were catching her silk dress so badly she could hardly walk. After 4 coats, she could dance, and the dress swished around her feet without catching on anything!

When you sealed your daughter's shoes did you cover the sole of the shoe so the spray did not get on the part of the shoe where her foot rests?
