I am recently engaged. My fiancé and I have decided to have a seafood boil and bbq family style for our reception. Our wedding ceremony and reception will be taking place at the State Park which there is access to the beach. We would provide the main courses; seafood, traditional bbq trimmings (burgers, hot dogs, and even throw in some Filipino food as my mom is Filipina). Would it be wrong to ask for our guests to bring a dish instead of gifts??

YES. I would never go to a potluck wedding. I hate them even at work etc. people should not have to work or provide anything for an event you are suppose to be hosting

I was reading up on this. BUT I have looked into all what you have advised to do. I am not going to ask anyone to bring anything. This is just more of a laid back event as this is his second marriage and my first. We are both very unconventional, sometimes keeping traditions but love changing it up, we make our own traditions and rules tatted couple who love to be different. We were not expecting out of town guest to bring anything. This potluck style reception was us bringing our families together how we know how to do it our families style way where everyone can exchange recipes and etc etc. Thank you all for you the advice.
