SDE - Is it worth it?

Rhia, on March 13, 2015 at 4:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Hi brides,

Just wanted to know if anyone is getting SDE? I've fallen in love with the work of a cinematographer but he does not offer any SDE - which is something I've always imagined having at my wedding. The pricing for some cinematographers that have SDE are so ridiculously high. In your opinion, is it worth it? What is the percentage of weddings that you've attended that had SDE? Thanks in advance!

Sorry! - Same day edit, when they show an edited recap of the ceremony & first dance during the reception.

Is it for the guests to see, too? Or just you? If I was a guest and had to rewatch what I just saw happen live, I wouldn't be too fond of it. I guess I don't really know much about it. We aren't even doing a videographer because it's not worth the money for us.

Yea its for everyone at the reception to see. There is footage on the bride & groom getting ready as well. Thank you for your input!

Do what YOU want. I feel like many guests will get a little bored of it but if you think it is worth it then go ahead! Or if you just wanted to see the footage, ask if they can just show it to you.

I don't get it. I wouldn't be interested. I mean, I JUST sat through that, and I do not need to see anyone getting ready.

You don't need to reminisce IMMEDIATELY.

Personally I wouldn't find it worth it, especially if it's significantly more expensive.

I think I would be pretty bashful watching that with all of my guests. And I wouldn't expect any of them to want to see it.

I would definitely eyeroll that if I were a guest. I just watched the ceremony... and now I watch it again at the reception? What?

About half of the weddings I've been to have had it. I think it's worth it for the people who aren't able to make it to the ceremony to see. It also gives you something to share immediately for the people who could not attend

I've seen a same-day edit at a wedding and it was quite amazing to see actually. It's not just reliving the event in the same way - there is editing / music involved (obviously) and when done WELL by a top videographer / cinematographer, it brings in a lot of emotion and a personal touch to the reception. Guests really enjoyed it because there was footage of THEM as well, not just the bride and groom. It got huge applause. And it was not long or drawn out. But like you said, the good ones are SUPER expensive and I honestly don't think it's worth it for such as short video. Hire the cinematogrpaher you love, and skip the same-day edit.
