Wow guys, I knew we were going to have a reading but had not mad up my mind as to which scripture. Now you guys have given me some great ideas for further thought. Our wedding invitations use Corinthians "love never fails". Great posts!

@ mslee................love that poem!!!! Hope you won't mind if I use it sometime/somewhere during my ceremony. So beautiful!

We are doing two scripture readings. One from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament. The old testament reading is "The Creation of Man & Woman" Genesis 2:18-24 and the reading from the old testament will be "Marriage like Christ and the Church" Esphesians 5:22-23

NONE, although we both believe in a higher power. As a same sex couple though we thought it more fitting to just convey that love is universal and marriage is just love on a higher level in which we both are ready to committ to.

We're going to share this during our ceremony:

    ---------------------------------------------

    "WHY MARRIAGE?" by Mari Nichols-Haining

Because to the depths of me, I long to love one person,

With all my heart, my soul, my mind, my body...

Because I need a forever friend to trust with the intimacies of me,

Who won't hold them against me,

Who loves me when I'm unlikable,

Who sees the small child in me, and

Who looks for the divine potential of me...

Because I need to cuddle in the warmth of the night

With someone who thanks God for me,

With someone I feel blessed to hold...

    Because marriage means opportunity

To grow in love in friendship...

    Because marriage is a discipline

To be added to a list of achievements...

Because marriages do not fail, people fail

    When they enter into marriage

Expecting another to make them whole...

    Because, knowing this,

I promise myself to take full responsibility

For my spiritual, mental and physical wholeness

    I create me,

I take half of the responsibility for my marriage

    Together we create our marriage...

    Because with this understanding

    The possibilities are limitless.

If we use any Scriptures, it will probably be from Ruth. After all, it is from one woman to another, and regardless of what their relationship is, it definitely sounds like "vows" to me. It even ends with a "til death do us part" type of ending...

"And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me."
