Is there anyone else who is scared they’re going to look fat on their wedding day? I’ve always struggled with my weight and body image issues, and I feel so much pressure from family. Is there anyone else who is scared they’re going to look fat on their wedding day? I’ve always struggled with my weight and body image issues, and I feel so much pressure from family. I’m scared of looking fat in my wedding dress, or not living up to expectations of what a bride is supposed to look like. Please tell me I’m not the only one. The most stressful part about wedding planning has been trying to lose weight while I’m stressed and fitting my dress.

I totally understand how you feel. I’m usually a size 6 and have jumped to an 8ish recently. The worst was when I did get my dress - it was a 14. I has to be remind myself it was just because that’s how their sizing is not the same. I could have done more to get down to my normal size but - honestly there was a part of my that was like “you shouldn’t have to stress out about your body at this time in your life. You don’t need to be perfect.” I wanted my wedding to be the least stressful thing possible and it was - and while some of the photos do make me cringe - most of them look great and I know I look healthy and that’s all that’s matters!

Hey Brides, I have a quick question here for those of you who mentioned here and there about gaining weight. My question is where you trying to stay at weight and/or dieting?

I am curious because I am 5 1/2 months out until my wedding and still have the holidays to pass. My dieting has not been extreme as I wanted it to be something that I would incorporate into my lifestyle and wish to continue keeping myself healthy after the wedding due to family history of medical problems. I have not been depriving myself of anything I may want either because that really makes it hard to stick to it and I jut moderate it. I am just trying to get a feeling for what caused the weight gain especially closer to those fitting dates and maybe if there are ways to avoid it.

YES and I am still so far away from the big day. I started feeling nervous as soon as that ring was on my finger. To be fair, I've struggled with an eating disorder for years and this is an understandable stressor but I can't even think about trying on dresses because it makes me nauseous from anxiety; at least I don't have to any time soon? I'm even nervous about eventual engagement photos. I'm in counseling consistently which hopefully will help, but it's still a very present anxiety. You're definitely not alone.

    Hi Sasha!

I completely understand. I am obsessed with my weight and struggle to have confidence. About four years ago, I was at my best weight. I was around a size 6/8. However, I developed an autoimmune disease and went up to a 14. I was so miserable (mentally and physically). After finally getting some treatment, I am starting to lose the weight. My wedding day is in October 2019. I am really hoping to lose this weight by then. I know exactly how you feel. I've always struggled with body image issues and I come from a family that is VERY judgmental. You are definitely not alone...but you will look beautiful on your wedding day, do not worry.

Turns out I'm a size 23 and I'm 2 weeks always from marrying my high school sweet heart. I know he loves me for me I mean he met me when I was a size 12 in pants but geez I'm all of a sudden crying in the bathroom the day before my final fitting cause I'm scared that I wont look good in pictures compared to how in used to look just 5 years ago. When they say love makes you gain weight they don't lie. I hope I can at least make a comeback when we renew our vow here in 10 years 😂😂

My coworker thought it would be hilarious to tell me that I have a bit of chub and that my ass looked fat when I showed him pics of me trying on dresses. I think I'm just going to not eat until the wedding.

I am getting married for the 2nd time and I just turned 52 . My first wasn’t a real wedding. Just a quick thing. I’m older now and I have put in a few pounds. I bought my dress and loved it went in for my first fitting and felt good about it. I tried the dress on at home a couple months later and when I seen myself in the mirror I cried and said I can’t wear this. So I made my 2nd alterations appointment and she tried to help me fix it and I still don’t feel beautiful. I dread being in photos and not feeling like I always dreamed I would. So hopefully when I go try on my dress I haven’t gained anything maybe I lost weight? It can happen and I feel like a princess once in my life and when my man sees me walking down the aisle he has tears in his eyes. Then I will know how he feels

I think so many women (beautiful women) have body image issues. My weight has fluctuated throughout my adult life and finding a balance where I am happy with how I look and feel (and the lifestyle used to maintain) has been a long time coming.

When my husband and I started dating I was close to my heaviest and I very gradually lost weight over time. Since meeting him, I generally feel like I've been more relaxed, less stressed, and more accepting of myself, all of which has contributed to a healthier lifestyle balance and healthier weight. When we got engaged I dropped the final "stubborn" pounds without even trying and was very close to what I consider my ideal weight, but was really worried I wouldn't be able to maintain it for our wedding, or that I'd lose too much weight and yo-yo. My dress ended up fitting for our Covid elopement, but I've gained back a few pounds since then, and I tried it on a few weeks ago and it fit but was so snug I couldn't sit down! I ended up getting a second dress for our celebration and plan to wear our wedding dress for the ceremony and then change into my reception dress for dinner and dancing so I can feel more comfortable.

There is some comfort in knowing the day is almost here, but with dresses fitting so precisely it can feel like there is so much pressure to maintain an exact size for your wedding. All brides want to look beautiful and feel confident on their wedding day.

I am certain your partner loves you, and thinks you are beautiful and sexy, just the way you are, and will think you are the most beautiful thing ever when they see you in your wedding dress. How you feel about yourself and how your partner feels is what really matters, not whether or not you can live up to your families unrealistic standards or what not. Your marriage is you choosing to create the family you want with the person you want to be with, not being stuck with whatever blood or legal connections you were born or adopted into.
