Scared about the dress decision!

Kerry, on May 9, 2019 at 7:44 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35

I went looking for tulle tulle tulle! Sparkle! "Give me it all"! I chose a tulle and lace number after trying on about 10 dresses. Then a few months later (last month) I went to another shop where my friend got her dress (a Mori Lee), and the sales advisor asked if I would try on this.

I was like, sure, it's nothing I would ever pick. And I've changed my dress. (It's not yet ordered, but as yet, this is it).

Dress shopping for me hasn't been the joy I expected. Trying to get the right fit off my hips. Worrying that I wanted tulle and now it's satin and have I picked the right thing and what will everyone else think??! ....Sleepless nights worrying I picked the right one! I've decided not to show ANYONE (I know) my dress now, prior to our Christmas wedding this year. Would love everyone's opinions on classic satin!?

PS. this is 2 sizes too big on me, and pinned. Also tried it on in 3 sizes too small, the chest/straps dont look as huge on me.

You look beautiful. I think satin is great for a winter wedding and the simplicity of the gown really lets your tattoos shine.

I think it's beautiful! I also wanted a tulle, sparkly, A-line gown. I ended up with a lace fitted dress. My MOH made my try it on and I fell in love with it. Now I always tell brides I know to try on dresses you wouldn't expect to like or dresses in multiple silhouettes. You just never know!

This happens so often I've heard! the sales lady was carrying it and was just saying she had 3 no-shows for appointments, and this was just ready for an appointment. "Do you want to try it on" ... Like for fun! I did. For fun. And just stood there like :o oh no, oh eck (paid a deposit elsewhere for another dress)
I think I'm a bit worried about the hips (mine are chunkaaaaaay!) BUT my husband-to-be LOVES my hips and bum, ha! So, embracing away I guess.

I'm telling myself it's more fairy-tale this way, as all our Brit princesses are seeming to go for plain... And our getting together was a little fairy tale. Save that story for a rainy day!

I tried on this same exact dress and jazzed it up with a belt and veil. I really did love it. I felt timeless and classic and oh-so elegant and refined. Ultimately, I decided it was a bit too plain for my wedding vision, but it’s a stunning dress and I think it would be great for a winter wedding.

I didn’t get pictures of yours when I tried it on. The one I’m wearing in the picture had some extra embroidered design on the skirt but is very similar.

Love the train on it too. I tried this one on this morning. Just to check I didn't want tulle. As the top and neckline I love.

I thought this was going to be the one (6581) but I went back to 6758.

    I mean......It has pockets.

I don't think I can jazz up 6758 with the wide waistband? I would like to consider a belt, which worked beautifully with 6581, but I think I would need either a really wide belt or no belt at all?

    6581 I tried on this morning=

This dress looks gorgeous on you!! Don't doubt it if you agree! I think the thing most women do wrong is go in looking for something they thought they liked online. Trust me, I did the same thing, but after a while I stopped looking online and just tried on whatever was in the store and found my dress that was WAY different than what I thought I wanted!

I LOVE that dress on you - it's a beautiful, classic look, and I agree that it showcases your tattoos well, without competing with them.

Ahhh thanks everyone. I needed this. Choosing not to let any friends or family see it now, meant I had no input (good) but also no compliments when I was almost positive I found the one!

Do you have a photo of you in this dress? Both tops are very similar & very elegant. Tulle is usually more forgiving than satin, since you mentioned you’re concerned about hips. Although in the 1st dress you look great! I agree belt wouldn’t work with the 1st dress, unless it’s really wide, in which case you would probably want to go with less blingy/elaborate belt not to overpower the dress.

You look beautiful! If you aren't completely happy with the dress.. You still have some time to look elsewhere.

I thought the same thing, the classic simplicity of the gown really showcases your tattoos, which is awesome!!! I also did not get the kind of dress I thought I wanted! You look gorgeous in this dress and I think it will fit your winter wedding so well!

I absolutely love the satin look. I also thought I would have sparkle and tulle, but honestly I loved the elegance of the satin the best.

Sometimes we have a vision in our heads of what we think is the one, but when we actually get to trying on dresses our likes can change! Sounds like you fell in love with this dress when you tried it on! I agree with PP the simplicity shows off your amazing tattoos as well! Try to get the vision of what you thought you wanted to look like out of your head and go with the dress that makes you feel the most gorgeous. I agree, satin is great for a winter wedding!

I didn't get a photo of me in the 6581, it was a size 12/14 (so we're talking 8/10 irl)
It did me zero justice on the top half, I couldn't tell what it would look like in my size as the panels would not align to me. So I focused on the skirt which was the main difference and decided if I was going satin I was going all satin - 6758

I'm surmising that I may look less hippy when it's my size because the chest will be flush to me (under the arms, see it flaring?), and the straps likely shorter, meaning the waistband will be a tad higher... Maybe

I also tried it with a hoop today and that smoothed a little of the lines

Next stop... Bolero/shrug/jacket decisions... (Dec 21st, can't imagine I'm gonna be warm!!)

This is gorgeous! It looks so classy! If you feel you are missing some sparkle, you could always add a belt, but I think it looks perfect as is! Go with your gut Smiley smile
