So we are making a list of things that need to be don’t before the wedding. One is save the dates. My fiancé (ohhh how I love him 😂) asked what is the point of save the dates. My reply to let people know when we are getting married so they can prepare. He goes “ most people probably just throw them away” my question is. How important are save the dates? He’s right I’m the worlds worst at just tossing them after they sit on my cabinets for weeks. How do I explain the importance of save the dates?

I think they're dumb, personally. If you have the budget, fine - but they're not necessary at all.

I thought it was important - then I realized that after I sent them tons of people still proceeded to ask me the wedding date, the link to the website, etc. over and over and over again, and the amount of people who thought that was the actual invitation was absurd, I had so many people upset over the "lack of detail on the invitations" and so many asking me how they're supposed to RSVP. So now I wish I wouldn't have wasted my time or money. I think everyone knew the date before I even sent the save the dates anyway.

In our circles, save the dates go on the fridge.
A photo of people we like and an event we're looking forward to? Why that deserves to be displayed and celebrated. When we get your invitation, it will go right up with it.
Everything will get thrown away after the wedding. And then, if you're cool enough to send a photo thank you, then that goes up.
We just sent our save the dates last Monday. For us it marked our 3 year anniversary. As well as the beginning of our wedding season. We're getting married in 8 months, and most of our invitations are staying in town.
But it gives us a chance to send most of the people a card to announce our engagement and date. It also gives us a chance to make sure all of the addresses we have are correct. I dont want to scramble to figure out people's addresses 2 months out from the wedding if I have the wrong address.

Side note: we used engagement photos, designed our own, printed our own, cut, stuffed, sealed, stamped, and addressed our own. So ours were free besides postage. And we didnt send our whole invite list one. So we maybe spent $40.

I think Save the Dates are important if you have out of town guest. It gives them the opportunity to plan ahead for it, we’re doing them ourselves. I’ve had several people also say those things to me but I just would rather be safe than sorry.

We're just sending out our invites a month or two early. There is no reason to spend that kind of money unless everyone is coming in from out of town and needs months and months to prepare. We would rather spend the money on the honeymoon. : )

I did email Save the Dates using Paperless Post and spent all of $10 for the upgraded design. It was nice because we could track who opened them. We also included a link to our wedding website, which gives an RSVP option and included hotel information for out of town guests. We have RSVPs from about 1/3 of our guests already.

We’re getting married next July and we decided to do save the dates since we’re getting married in the summer and people go on vacations and most people book their vacations early. We did STD magnets so people will hopefully put them on their fridge and not just throw them away. I got them when Shutterfly was doing 50% off so they were only $1.50

I decided to do them because we have a large amount of people having to travel for our wedding. So, with most people having busy schedules, this will hopefully help them plan ahead well in advanced. We are also having our wedding at a hotel, and guests will want to make reservations prior to the invitations being sent. I created a wedding website and will include the site link on the save the dates. This way guests can get up to date info and post to the blog over the next year.

We're doing them because my job especially sucks with allowing PTO/vacation time so I want people to have as much notice as possible. Like a previous poster mentioned in my circle they are typically on the fridge. If I don't have a constant reminder, I forget things. I'm not spending a lot on our Save the Dates but they are getting something.
