Save the dates

Adrienne , on April 5, 2019 at 8:44 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
Our wedding is January 4, 2020. Almost half of our guests are out of town (requiring plane travel). How soon is too soon to mail them out? Is more than 6 months away too soon? I have them created just haven't bought them yet.

I sent ours out around 8 months. Between 6 months - 1 year is okay.

Our wedding is 2/2/2020 and we'll be sending the save the dates as soon as they come in. (already ordered) It's never too soon for save the dates, especially if you have a ton out out of town guests. The majority of our guests are coming from Boston or Miami and we're getting married in Orlando.

I would send them now. We have a wedding with mostly OOT guests and we sent ours 9.5 months out.

We sent ours 8 months out! You might want to send them out now because people will start putting in PTO requests for Christmas and might not have enough left over to travel to your wedding ! Of course that’s probably more of a concern for some people than others but still something to think about.

I have always received STDs between 10-12 months before a wedding. Everyone I know has their trips and major events planned at least 8 months in advance so a 6 month STD wouldn't be useful. We sent ours out at 11 months and already had people pestering us for the information at that point.

I read somewhere that if you have a lot of guests coming from far out of town to treat your communication timing like a destination wedding, which means a little more time than your typical wedding.

We also have most guests coming from out of state, so our Save the Dates went out 9 months before the wedding.

Ha I'm still planning them. I had a design all made on shutterfly but then I remember my friend is a graphic designer and is going to help create a design for me. Im very indecisive. Plus itll be cheaper! Definitely going to mail them out by July 1 though. I gave all of my out of town guests our wedding website link already and they know they're invited. We have maybe 80 people on our list and only a third of them aren't local. This way they dont have to wait for the save the date with the website link to get the hotel room block and closest airport info 😊
