Save the dates to vendors

Private User, on September 8, 2012 at 10:13 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

So we've secured quite a few of our vendors... all in fact! We are having a wedding in a relatively small town, International Falls MN and a lot of our vendors tie in. Our Florist is the mother of our DJ, our reception cite is a lodge that we vacation at in the winter and summer and we are inviting the owners. Our Photographer is the cousin of one of the bartenders at the lodge. Since our vendors are friends or friends/family of friends should we send save the dates to them? I have our officiant on our mailing list because she's such a sweet sweet lady and we chat on FB frequently.

I think in this case it's okay to break etiquette. Yes or no?

If they are vendors then they should already have the date saved... so save the dates would essentially be pointless..

Personally I wouldn't. That kind of makes it seem like they're guests. Even though you know all of them personally, they are vendors, not guests.

If you really, really want to... I would wait and send them invites and not save-the-dates. They don't need the date saved, and sending invites would essentially do the same thing as sending save the dates.

We sent a save-the-date to our photographer.. it has our website information on there (they haven't met FH yet and I figured it'd be a good way to read a little bit about our background).. plus, I really want them to have a good feel for our wedding since they'll be documenting it!

We also sent a save-the-date to our venue (we used their post cards and printed our photos/information on the back), so that they have an example to show other couples.. which is how we found out about the idea, so it seemed appropriate to give them another sample! Smiley smile

Other than that we didn't send them to any other vendors.. DJ, officiant, florist, guitarist, etc.. but we also don't know any of them! I'd say to just go with your gut! It's your wedding and etiquette is sometimes more frustrating than helpful!!!

Thanks for your feedback! I should have clarified, I'm only planning on sending them to our officiant and photographer. Jillian, like you, our wedding website is listed and on our website we have photos of our wedding site and I too thought it would be a nice way for our photographer and officiant to get a feel for who we are as our guests post comments etc and to see pictures of our family. We are a blended family, this is my second marriage, my fiance's first and I have 2 children (16 & 12). I just thought it would be a nice way to include them and to allow them to follow along with our planning.

Thanks again and good luck to all of you!

You know, I never thought of giving save-the-dates to vendors. We didn't have pre-existing relationships with our vendor, but I think that would be adorable!!
