Save the Dates & Invites Timeline

Marilyn, on August 12, 2019 at 9:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Need some solid advice on Save the Dates & Invites! My wedding is in October 2020 in Cabo San Lucas.

My confusion is when I do send the Save the Dates in October (1 year prior to wedding), what do I include? Info on the destination, resort, & do I release the link for those to begin booking? Reserved rooms for my guests through DestinationWeddings.com & the deadline (before penalties kick in) is June 1st (4 months before wedding).

When would be the best time to send the Invites? When I send the invite, I'll open the page on my website to RSVP.

You could include an accommodations card with your save the date or just a link to your wedding website where that information is listed. Invitations typically go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. You could push it to 8-10 weeks for a destination wedding, but it’s not really necessary.

I'd send your invites out before that june deadline. You might send out as much info as possible in the save the dates tho. A year is fine for those.

A year ahead is definitely necessary for a destination wedding and I'd send invites out at least 1-2 months prior to your date. If you're having a wedding website, I'd put all of that information on there so people can read it well before the actual date. On your save the dates you can direct people to the site and it will save a ton of time, money, and hassle.

    Hey Marilyn!

There are two articles in the ideas section that I think will be really helpful to you, there is also a lot of destination wedding-specific info here for you -

When to Send Save the Dates

    When to Send Wedding Invitations

It’s great that you already have plans to send your STD’s out to your guests about a year in advance. It would be a great idea to include information about travel and accommodation so that guests can be prepared and keep an eye out for good value flights for your wedding date. Although, you could merely include all of this info on your wedding website and list this on your STDs.
