It's just about that time to send out the Save-the-Date cards and I've been thinking about saving time and money just in case the wedding has to be canceled. Do you think it's super tacky to send the Save-the -Date via virtual? instead of actual cards in the mail? Even WeddingWire has the option and looks kind of cool but is it really tacky to do so? I mean everything nowadays is so virtual but I have mixed thoughts about it.

What do you ladies think?

Yes. I didn’t want pictures on the save the date so we decided on mirror magnets, was beautiful and was affordable.

I’m all about sending mailed save the dates but if I received a virtual one I wouldn’t think it was tacky at all! It’s still the same sentiment of being invited and that’s all that matters! You could send virtual to most your guests and send physical ones to those you think aren’t as tech savvy! That can help save money!

Congratulations - Go Virtual is unknown what or how to go about things these days. Your crowd will understand. My wedding is postponed for March 2021 and I mailed second invites. Have no idea what to do next! Stay positive we got this

Save the dates are not only meaningless if changed, but having a likelihood of changes due to Covid, it is best not to send them at all, than send them wrong once or twice. Saves are a recent invention, and not everyone uses them in the best of times. They are always an informal communication , and doing what they did before Saves , is call, write ( snail mail or personally addressed email, not blasts), or simply tell them, at whatever time you were absolutely sure there would be no changes. There is no routine time. If you send out info by computer or phone call, 3,4,or 5 months in advance, saying you will be sending a formal invitation in May for your July wedding, that is fine. See what looks clear in February or March, then send. Any individual invitations overseas, or for a special situation, you can tell just those few people early. And have just those few to apologize to if it changes. Because of family, we travel internationally, or to Northern Canada, often. Once you have a passport, in unsettled times, it is unwise to reserve before 4-5 months, and usually later is fine. Special fares you may get early are useless if they drop the flight, or if you pay a change penalty. And close to , there are other cheaper flights so they don't fly with empty seats. So do not feel you ought to send things earlier. There is a reason why for decades, through wars and other epidemics, 8 weeks has been the standard date for invitations.

I sent virtual save the dates to some of our guests since we have overseas guests. It worked well for us and we were able to pick out a cute design that matched our theme. If it makes your life easier I’d say go for it !
