"Save the Date"

Estrella, on February 17, 2021 at 1:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27
Hello all,

When is the best time to send out a 'Save the Date' ? Getting hitched 10/10/21 💕🍾
And what should be included besides: "Formal invitations to follow" ?? I've read different etiquette rules on this subject and have found mixed suggestions.
Thanks in advance for input!

Send them 6 months before your wedding if its local or a year to 8 months before if destination, you don't have to include anything else on the save the date.

Typically 6-8 months before your wedding date. Date and City/State is really all you need to include! You can also include your wedding website if you have one, but that is totally optional.

Congratulations on your engagement! Save The Dates are typically sent out 6-8 months ahead of time (though you could send them out 8-12 months in advance if it's a destination wedding). They usually include: your names, the date of the wedding, the city/state that the wedding will be held in, "Formal Invitation To Follow" (though this is optional, since it's implied by receiving the Save The Date), and also your wedding website (if there's room to add it). Also be aware that everyone who receives a Save The Date must also get an invitation.

I don't think that you're late on sending them out! For an October wedding, now would be a perfect time to send out Save The Dates.

Formal Invite send 6 to 8 WEEKS before the wedding, make your RSVP date 2-3 weeks before the wedding so you have a final number for your venue.

Formal invites are sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Determine what date you have to give a final count to your caterer and/or venue by, and set your RSVP deadline to at least a week before that. That way, you'll have some extra time built in to track down anyone who doesn't RSVP by the deadline, before you have to give final numbers to your caterer.

Formal invites should be sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. That way, it's close enough to the wedding to where people should know what their plans are for that weekend, but far enough away to where you still have time to put together final counts. The risk of sending them too far in advance (more than two months beforehand) is that people wait to reply because they don't know their plans for that day yet, and they may lose the invite in the meantime.

Agree with pp. I would do like mid August and have them RSVP by like Sept 19.

6-8 weeks before the wedding is normally recommended. Any earlier and you risk people changing their RSVPs closer to the event.

Save the dates sent 6-8 months before the wedding. Invitations are sent 6-8 weeks before standard with replies due back 3 weeks prior. Any earlier and people will forget.

Every etiquette book mentions this timeline and invites that I and others we know have received have been the same with zero issues When in doubt, ask mothers and grandmothers in the family.

6-8 months before the wedding. Make sure your guest list is final before they are sent because they cannot be revoked.

The only thing you need is your names, the date, the city and state and "formal invites to follow"

People will tell you etiquette says this or that but it doesn’t matter that’s all super outdated and not one size fits all. What matters is when you need to have all your final counts in for venue, florist, catering etc and work backwards from there. We need ours 2-4 weeks in advance so need to have all our rsvps back by then. We also plan to add a week for stragglers. So for our October 23rd wedding we will have RSVPs due Sept 8 and we will send them in mid August (I don’t want them delivered right before Labor Day weekend). Don’t forget it’s the due date the invitee has to put it in the mail, not necessarily the date you will get them back so buffer for mailing especially during covid. Some people need the final sooner especially during covid times. Google will tell you what a typical timeline looks like but don’t forget to tailor it to your specific needs.

Hi date twin! Our wedding is 10.10.21 too! We sent save the dates in January 2021. My suggestion is to do yours soon like this month! 2021 is going to be a busy year filled with rescheduled events and potential rescheduled travel plans, so I would get on people’s calendars sooner rather than later. Attaching a pic for reference on what we thought was important to include. "Save the Date" 1
