Save The Date Postcards

Jasmine, on November 19, 2019 at 6:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

FH and I had recently decided to change our save the dates to postcards to cut a bit of cost on envelopes. I'm still a little worried though because there's really nothing to protect our information if it was to get lost.

We would also be sending them right after Christmas to bypass all that is holiday mail madness. It should be fine, right?

Have any of you sent out save the date postcards? Did everyone receive them? What was your experience?

I'm sending mine out this week as poscards! Since they're save the dates, the only information we included was the date and city it was located in so that randos didn't have sensitive info. You could always include your website link, I would recommend password protecting it or requiring their name/email to enter.

I'm hand delivering a lot of them, but I'm also not too worried if they don't show up since we'll be sending our invites out early which will have more information. I think you should be okay with getting them delivered, just make sure the paper is a little thicker!

Have you considered doing save the dates online? That would cut the cost and eliminate them from getting lost in the mail / seen by randos lol.

We did paper invitations, but electronic save the dates. It was easy and cheap and my friends actually said it was easier than paper because most of them saw it on their phones and then just immediately added the date to their phone calendars 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yea, true. That's pretty much all the info you need. I have our website on there. I didn't even think about password protection. Thick paper, got it. Thank you!

No, I haven't actually. That does seem pretty simple. Is that option website specific or do you have that option anywhere? Because I already had my save the dates done and ready to order for quite some time now, just changing it into a postcard layout.

We actually did the super budget-friendly solution of just emailing the card we had made up 😂 you could probably just screenshot what you’ve done and then make a wedding email address that has both your names, and send it to people? Lol. We basically did that and it worked just fine for us and didn’t cost a penny.

Alternately, if you want to be a little less stingy (lol) you could use greenvelope. My friend used them and it worked well for her.

My cousin did postcard invites. Amazing. Everything was right there. Just flip it open. So unique. We liked it a lot.

What website did your cousin use for their postcard? Was it electronic or a physical invite?

We sent STD postcards last month. So far everyone has received them that we've talked to. My main complaint (which I knew would be a potential issue) was they didn't look as nice on arrival due to the mailing process. For example, there were ink markings from the mail machine smeared on some and the edges were turned up on others, etc.

Everyone still seemed to love them and it saved us like $100 soooooo......

That's where I'm coming from as well is the whole saving $100+ but that does seem a bit unfortunate about the look of them when they arrived. Guess that makes sense though considering what they go through and they don't have any protection. As long as they don't arrive like all ripped up and half folded. What kind of stock did you use or would recommend?

I'm thinking about doing digital save the dates as well. Did you email them? Text them? Message on Facebook? I'm concerned email or messages might get lost in junk mail, but I also don't want to have to text 100 people the e-vite!

I just used the standard glossy front option on Vistaprint.

We just sent out save the date postcards and so far has worked out really well. It only has the city/state and our date as well as our wedding website on the back. I guess I’m not really worried about a rando ending up on it 🤷‍♀️

I can say that ours really didn’t get torn or smudged at all. Save The Date Postcards 1

I plan on doing STD postcards through Costco. My address is the only personal information that anyone will see. There’s more info out on social than will be on the postcard.

I sent out postcards for our save the dates! Had no issues, minus a few bounce backs because we had incorrect addresses. Only thing I wasn't a huge fan of is all the post office ink that gets on it when its run through the machines, but it honestly outweighed the price of adding envelopes

I sent out RSVPs as postcards and when they came back to me in the mail, some did feel a tad ripped on the sides.
