Save the date magnets vs cards

KLevesque, on December 15, 2013 at 1:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 26

I'm struggling with whether I want to buy save the date magnets or if I just want to print regular 5x7 one sided cards. Any suggestions? The magnets are quite a bit more expensive but are they more convenient?

With the number of save the dates I have gotten in the last year it was way more convenient when they were magnets!!! So I got them myself and it wasn't any extra for postage. I got mine through vistaprint and I loved them. There are a ton of good groupings and retailmenot deals for vista print to help you save money.

Depending on how many you need to order, Vistaprint has great prices on magnets. I purchased a $15 Groupon that was good for $45 worth of merchandise on vistaprint.com. I paid a total of $0.98 (plus the $15 Groupon I purchased previously) for 40 magnets and a self inking stamp. The quality of the magnets are excellent. I'll post a photo of my magnet next time I get to a computer. I would definitely recommend them.

I did magnets. Easy, and no excuses for forgetting. Plus, I usually stick regular save the dates on the refrigerator anyway; it's convenient to have a magnetic one.

With Vista Print I paid for my std and was able to order magnets for free. I'm glad I did both, because as one of my girlfriends reminded me, magnets do not stay on stainless steel. So if your guest has real stainless steel they may not stay on the fridge.

I think the magnets I got are 4x6. I got them from vista print. They're perfect and after the groupon and a coupon from retail me not I ended up paying around $30for 100 of them. And they were light enough that they only needed a normal stamp to mail.

I ordered I think 4 or 5 magnets from Shutterfly and it damn near cost like $40 bucks before my $20 off gift card! I nixed the idea altogether, but I guess I just need to search for better deals.

Shutterfly is an expensive website! I would never used them even if I had a promo deal.

I have a stainless steel fridge so I will be doing a combination of both for what I know my guests have. I've been to everyone's house I'm inviting.

I'm doing both. I had decided on cards first because I loved the design I found but then after a while I decided to have both so that if guests lose or misplace the card they can still have a magnet to look at on the fridge and remind them. Paid $23 for my magnets at overnightprints.com on cyber monday for 100 magnets! They are usually $44 but they always have a sale going on so you'll spend less that that and can get $5 off by liking them on FB. I designed them myself using their design tool. Quality is really good. I made sure to request a free sample pack from them weeks prior. Colors are very vibrant too. My STDs are being custom designed by a graphic designer but I'll be using the same company to print the cards. And will spend less than $70 to have both cards and magnets. Therefore, you can do both if you'd like and not break the bank.

I was okay with cards and FH really wanted magnets. For a guest list of 180 we sent our STD to about 3/4 of those people, plus you only need one per house so we only sent out about 65-70 STD. Because we didn't need that many we did go with magnets and I am glad we did. They turned out well, we know someone who prints stuff but would have used vista print or done out own.

ETA: I think ours are 4x6

I vote magnets. I always loved when I got a magnet in myself because I knew I wouldn't lose it and it was always right there! I would hang in on my chalkboard in my office while in college. We sent magnets out and have heard a lot back from guest that they loved it! I had a coupon code for them from wedding paper divas when I ordered.

I think magnets are great if it's in your budget! I didn't get them because I wanted to save money but I do think people keep magnets more than card.

We did magnets. We went through weddingpaperdivas.com

Lots of templates to choose from! We got our STD's within a few days of ordering and we received free shipping. Also, going with what MRS_Mikec said... we too, have a guest list of about 175... and we only sent out 73 because you only need 1 per household. We didn't need extra postage. We love the magnets because everyone has a fridge and it just sticks right on there for a daily reminder of our special day. Everyone loves them!

Heres a picture of ours below....

EDIT: Excuse the quality of the actual picture below...i took it in dim light with my phone. lol But i just wanted you to get the idea Smiley smile

I did magnets from VistaPrint as well and I was really happy with them (and the price!) I also prefer when I get STD magents.

I did magnets as well. Make sure you weigh them before you send. Mine required extra postage!

I did postcards- I like the magnets but every house I went into used a magnet and had our postcards on the fridge anyway.

If you have the money and you like the extra touch you can do magnets... but if you'd rather save some money I don't think there's a need for them.

We didn't use magnets, but a friend bought and glued little magnets to the back of hers. Saved money, but same end result.

My magnets were 4x6. I weighed them yesterday, they are less than 1 oz so we can use a regular stamp. Score!
