Save the Date dilemma

Nerissa, on May 13, 2019 at 1:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 12
I messed up. Ordered gorgeous save the date cards. When they arrived I realized they are missing the location. FH thinks we shouldn’t send them because we are planning a destination wedding and that’s a crucial piece of info. The cards do include our wedding website. Now he wants to just order and send invitations - skipping the Save the date. I’m kinda leaning towards sending them. Thoughts?

I’d send them!! I’m sure most people know you’re having a DW, plus you included the website so people
will learn the location there.. everyone I plan on iviting already know I’m having a DW and the location, so my save the dates are just a formality.

Your wedding isn’t until August 2020. So definitely don’t send an invitation this early. I’d send the STD as it is because it lists the website. Also you can verbally mention the location to your family and friends.

I think you should definitely still send them. I’m sure most people will check the website and see the location on there!

You could always add a small details card about the location.

I agree with this. You can just add a business sized detail card with the location of the wedding!

I’d reorder them or include a business card with the location information. That’s key info for every save-the-date, let alone one for a destination wedding. I think the intent is lost if the location isn’t included. I wouldn’t send invites yet though. It’s way too early.

Usually save the date never has the location, but it's fine because when you send the invites out that will have the location as well

Our save the date only had the City, State on it. But it did not list the name of the venue or the address. Our wedding website was also posted on there so if people wanted specifics, they could go to the website. I say send them! You already paid for them. And your website will give people all the info they need for right now.

Can you put a small insert card (business sized) in the envelope with the location and your wedding website?

Check with the vendor and see if they’ll reprint.

Definitely do NOT send them without a location for a DW. People do not consistently check the website upon receiving save the dates. Tbh if it didn’t have a location , I’d probably assume it was local and consequently not be immediately concerned with checking the website for hotel details. I’d only be inclined to automatically go to the website if I saw it was a DW, and then I’d go look into travel info.

Take it from someone whose wedding has passed— people do NOT always look at the website. I got so many questions from people all of which was clearly spelled out on the website. Plenty of people just don’t bother.

if you can’t reprint, at least add an additional details card.

My thoughts exactly. We ordered from Vistaprint so reprinting would be a cost. I think we will either reprint or print a details insert.

What did you end up doing about your save the dates? Did you reprint or print a details insert?
