Save date cards

Joelle, on August 19, 2019 at 2:38 PM Posted in Planning 1 22
What info do people generally put on save the date cards other than the date of the wedding and location? I have been fighting with my fiancé and mom all day about how things should be done. He thinks we should make a website and put the website link on the card where the hotel info will be, but she doesn’t think a website should be used and the hotel info should be directly on the card. My fiancé also doesn’t understand the point of not sending out rsvp’s 6-8 weeks before the wedding, when people can easily rsvp on the website he wants to make whenever they want even after receiving save the cards. My mom on the other hand thinks it’s tacky to have people rsvp online and thinks people should it in the mail. What did you guys do for save the dates and rsvp’s and invitations?

We did save the dates 7 months before with our wedding website on them and all hotel and travel info was on our wedding website. Almost every guest had to travel to our wedding. We closed the RSVP page on our website until invites went out and I’m so glad we did that. We had people book a hotel room after receiving a save the date who weren’t able to make it as well as people verbally tell us they could and then RSVP no because something came up. I wouldn’t have trusted peoples RSVP that far out and I wouldn’t have wanted to follow up. So my vote is wedding website on the save the date with RSVP only with the invitation. Doesn’t matter if you want it thru the mail or online or both.

So, we sent our Save the Dates out about 8 months in Advance. On our Save the Date we just had our picture, the date and city of the wedding. However, we also ordered business cards (it was like 10 bucks for 100 of them) that had our wedding website on them and put those in the envelope.

We used online RSVP and did have a few people RSVP online before the actual invites went out. It just made the most sense for us! With our invitations, we included an "RSVP" card that told guests to go on our website to RSVP.

Our website has hotel, transportation, etc. information on it as well!

We just put date, no location. This is ours for reference. We had magnets.

Our invitations we did old fashioned cards. I am not into online RSVPing as we have alot of older family members that would struggle with that.

We're sending out our Save the Dates this week or next week. We have the date and town on the front and our website and wedding hashtag on the back. Our hotel info is on the website so I wanted people to be able to go there and book their rooms since there will be a lot of out of town guests. We have a post card RSVP for our invitations.

I typically see websites on save the dates, especially if any guests have to plan to travel in. Our save the dates had the town, date, and our names. Then the back had our wedding website. We also included a small insert business size card with our main hotel block, but our guest list had over 100 people out of state so I knew a lot of people would want to book in advance. I would 100% make a website and put it on the card. Our invites had an insert card with hotel information, but it was also on the website.

Our STD just had the day, the city and the wedding website. I think it depends on your crowd - ours is mostly older folks, so most people didn't look at the website unless we emailed it to them directly. I think giving them an option to RSVP in the mail is a good idea, but do whatever you think is easiest for you and your guests!

I didn't want a wedding website, so our Save the Date had date, location, and hotel information. That's all they really need. On our invitations, there is a details card that states that a shuttle will be available for hotel guests.

I think the website idea is great and it's what I'm doing for mine. Personally, as a guest in weddings I hated having to mail back cards, because I'm young and don't own stamps. I'm putting an alternate option to RSVP via call or text on mine in case the older generation cant figure out the website

We sent the save the dates with the date and the city we were having it at. We sent invitations out and an rsvp card simply asking everyone to rsvp through our wedding website. It’s easier to keep track of that way

I sent out save the dates that had our website link, the city and state and the wedding date. All pertinent info is on the wedding website. But I honestly don't think anyone really has even looked at it... (I sent them out the end of June and our wedding is May 9 2020)

I will also be having people RSVP on our website, so the site will be included on our actual invitations as well. I don't see the point in wasting paper and stamps for RSVPs when half probably won't even use them anyway.

We are including a small business card in the save the dates. The card has our wedding website on it. The wedding website will have the hotel accommodations on it and information about the hotel blocks. We have a lot of out of state guests coming who will be booking travel arrangements before our invites go out.

We made a website and included a link to it on the save the date.

We didnt collect rsvps on the website (we are having a formal wedding, and online rsvp doesn’t really fit with a formal event). Our website included links to our registry’s, and links to hotel blocks for guests.

The website is a a really easy way for guests to be able to access information easily as you update it.

One debate against the rsvp link being open when you send save the dates, is that you won’t have all of your details down (times, meal options, etc) so it will be difficult for guests to commit to something they don’t know details for.

You can always compromise by creating a website with the information you know now, and update it later. You can opt to collect RSVPs later by adding that on the website later.

We are considering giving the people the option to rsvp on the website or by mail, really only cus my fiancé really wants everything done electronically, but my mom wants everything done formally and my mail, so I guess they’ll get the option. That being said, do you generally have people rsvp after receiving the save the dates or the invitations? If they have access to the website after getting the STD card, does that mean they’ll just rsvp there? Or are they supposed to wait til the invites? My fiancé wants to know far in advance so he knows whether to even send invites to people who say they can’t go. Or is this the kind of situation where they have the option to rsvp whenever?

We did online rsvp. It saved money and soooo much time. And I don’t have to open 40 little envelopes, our guests didn’t have to worry about mailing something or it getting lost in mail. Plus it makes it so that guests have to visit website for registry/ additional info. I have 1 aunt who doesn’t have a computer but my dad talks to her every week so it was a non issue.

I went ahead and had the entire website ready to go before sending them out, just in case. Typically people won't RSVP until they receive the formal invitation. By having the website on your STD (if you choose to do that) they *might* go ahead and RSVP, but most of the time people won't. Giving the option of both could work, but might confuse people about which one they are supposed to use.

Also, whoever you send a STD should get a formal invitation regardless of whether they have told you they can come or not. Hope that helps!

We sent our STDs out about 11 months in advance with only the date and location. And I'm so glad we did this!

My cousin included her website on their STDs and everyone booked the rooms almost immediately. This led to some people, like myself, who were unsure they'd be able to make it and waited until the invites came out. Nope, all the rooms were booked and that solidified my answer.

So I sent out my save the dates a week or so ago. I got them from Vista Print and I just replaced their info with mine. Well I had looked at so many over the course of a few days that I didn’t even realize, there was no date on it!! OMG I sent save the dates without the date! It just had our names and said for more information go to our website and listed the address. Tell me how stupid I felt when a friend pointed that out to me. I just played it off and said I wanted everyone to visit the website. Haha I mean what was I going to do, buy and send more. Whatever what’s done is done. Lol I do plan on doing online rsvp to save money on postage but I’m still putting a rsvp card in with the invite listing the instructions and and option to call or text me instead of going online.

I just made our save the dates this weekend! I put the wedding website info on the back and the location of the ceremony and reception. Our website will have all hotel info before the invitations go out (I need to get on that haha)

We sent out our save the dates 8-9 months before our wedding day since it was a destination wedding. It included the date, city, and (on the back) a link to our website.

We used online RSVPs but did not make that page available on our website until after the formal invites were sent. Access to RSVP required a password that we included on a details card.
