Saturday in September or Sunday in October wedding

Sit down with your VIP guests and figure out what works best for them.


If you want more of a party atmosphere, Saturday is better. If you want calm and subdued, Sunday is better.

If you’re planning to have an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour, I would definitely pick the September date over the October, one based on weather alone.

Personally, I would choose the Saturday in September. It depends on your budget, but $1,000 isn’t that big of a difference for a venue price. Do what is right for you. This is just what I would do given the location and time of year

I'm confused as to what holiday you are even referring to in October that everyone would have off from work and school. I'm guessing you mean Columbus Day but not everyone actually has off for that holiday. Yes kids are out of school but there's plenty of jobs where people work that day. Regardless I would probably go for a September wedding because generally speaking Saturdays are easier days to have a wedding. Also if you want the ceremony outdoors typically September is warmer. Plus $1k really isn't that big of a discount in the grand scheme of things.

I would pick September 2024 just based on the perpetually rainy weekends coastal states felt this October and November.

Ooh I have a few reasons why my vote is for Saturday in September:

1. Better chance of great weather - H and I got married in early September in Maryland and couldn't have asked for better weather! October may be toeing the line with cool to even cold weather.

2. October is the most popular month to get married so guests might be more likely to have conflicts with other weddings (unlikely, but could happen!).

3. I don't know a lot of people that actually get Columbus Day off work - H and I both work run-of-the-mill desk jobs and I get the day off while he does not. If there's any federal holiday employers won't give off, it's that one lol

Just my two cents! Can't go wrong either way, though!

Definitely the Saturday, for the following reasons:

1. Better weather if you really want outdoors

2. $1000 is not a big price difference in the grand scheme of things. If you were talking a $6-7k difference, then I'd have a different opinion

3. I don't know anyone who gets Columbus Day off besides federal employees. I'm a teacher and I don't even get Columbus Day off

I'd go for Saturday if you are hoping for an outdoor cocktail hour and ceremony. Even so, be sure to have a plan B in case it's too hot, cold, rainy, etc. The rest wouldn't factor into it much in your place unless the cost difference is a burden.
