I found a local pizza, pasta, and grill that has delicious sounding sandwiches that are available for catering. The sandwiches are served on ciabatta bread and the selections are: Turkey Apple Brie, Grilled Chicken Caprese, and a Smoked Turkey Club. I looked in to it and the sandwich sizes are generous in size. I would serve these with caesar salad and cheese pizza for kids. I will also have a brie kisses, hard meats, cheeses, vegetables, and fruits for appetizers.

I am wondering if this will be underwhelming for the guests or filling enough. I am having a casual, semi-DIY wedding and my budget is very low. Doing the sandwiches and apps this way will average me out to about $12 a person.

Edit- The wedding will be in August (Really hot in Idaho) and dinner will be served around 6:30.

Thank you!

I am still bouncing ideas around. I am thinking of doing Italian, perhaps chicken marsala? I found a little restaurant that charges $5 per chicken marsala serving and then add a couple sides and a dish for the vegetarians.

I like the idea of food trucks, but the selection is few and far between here in Boise ( Burgers, gyro's, tacos).

I am having the ceremony outside (should take about 30mins), then the cocktail hour and the reception inside. I am providing a full bar the entire event since our venue allows us to bring our own alcohol (we hired a bartending friend to man the bar). If all else fails, at least we will have that going for us Smiley smile

@Delfina! Thank you for your research, that's very sweet of you! We have tossed around the idea of BBQ and those prices are really affordable. Next week, the future grandmother in law and I will be making rounds and I will certainly add that to my list.

I know... I am feeling quite stressed for time, I have about two months to get my life together! My fiance and I have been dating for 6 years and decided to get married about a month and half ago, and we wanted to get it done quick since my sister will be getting married next year. I totally underestimated all the planning, even for a casual wedding!

That sounds fine to me! My parents had sandwiches for their wedding. The biggest thing I look for in going to a wedding is: did I like the food and am I full. If it's yummy no one will complain.

We're doing build your own sandwiches for our evening reception along with salads and fruit and the like. I think it's perfect for a summer wedding, who wants heavy food that's gonna make you feel all hot and sluggish!

I read your post about deciding not to do sandwiches after hearing opinions on it so I just wanted to say that the food you described sounds so good right now it's making me hungry....I think I'll just go get a sandwich now...

Good luck! I hope you're able to find catering that is suited for dinner for your big day!

I like your chicken marsala or delfina's find much better. If you are having a cocktail hour, sandwiches might fit there.

    Happy planning!

I'll be very honest -- when I receive a wedding invitation in the mail, and the reception is at dinner time, I'm expecting, at the very least, a hot chicken dish (and usually, several other options that include a beef dish and a fish dish). If I attended your dinner hour wedding and realized that sandwiches were on the menu, I wouldn't be thrilled. I like to eat with a fork and knife at a social dinner, not my hands. Pizza? I never go there when it comes to weddings. I go there on Wednesday nights, but not at weddings.

If you want to serve sandwiches, you really should have a luncheon wedding. It is, in my opinion, the only time that this wouldn't look...well, low budget (and believe me, guests notice low budget, and the first thing they look at is the amount of guests you invited...then, they do the math). If you're limited to $12 PP, I'd really rethink that guest list.

You mentioned the fact that it's super hot in your state in the month of August (mine too, and I'm in NY). Are you hosting an outdoor reception? You might want to rethink that. Also, what about alcohol? If you're this limited on the food budget, what's available for the bar budget?

Try bbq, Italian, or tacos. There are caterers that start at about $8pp and could be much more filling
