Sandals Resort for a honeymoon

FutureMrsFrench, on June 2, 2016 at 2:28 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 31

We've just started looking at places to go on our honeymoon, and one place that we really liked were the Sandals resorts. We love the idea of all inclusive.

Any advice for someone a little further into the planning process?

Sandals resorts are truly amazing! We just got back from Sandals Grande St Lucian, in St. Lucia and it was the best vacation I have ever went on. My advice is to go to a travel agent. Sandals resorts do not give any special discounts so if you were to book yourself it would be identical to booking through an agency and 9 times out of 10 the agency will throw in perks. The travel agency was amazing and I went 2 days after my wedding it was nice not having to plan it!

Loved Sandals when FH & I went when we first started dating. If we hadn't been gifted our honeymoon we probably would have done them again. As ACx2 said use a travel agent they can get you perks, also call the week before to check in and make sure they know it's your honeymoon. They usually will have champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting.

Agreed with ACx2. We went to Sandals Grande St Lucia and it was amazing. I highly recommend going through a travel agent. She helped us get all the little extras and they have insight on which rooms to choose. I think Sandals resorts are usually more expensive but well worth it. DH and I have done another trip that was all inclusive and it definitely was not as good as Sandals.

Thank you! I would have skipped over the travel agent part, but thank you for suggesting it. We will be doing that!

We just booked our honeymoon at a Sandals resort. We sprung for the Butler suite and I am thinking we won't want to come home!!! I just did the booking myself online. I have always booked all of vacations, cruises, etc so I just did this one as well.

IMHO-Sandals is worth it! You can definitely get a cheaper resort, but I loved the selection of restaurants and the quality of service was superb everywhere we went.

I would book the resort yourself, rather than going through a travel agent. If you go through a travel agent, the resort will not work with you or even confirm your booking with you. All communication has to go through the travel agent, which sucks, especially if you end up with a shitty agent like we did. Plus-all-inclusive resorts are sooooooooo easy to book and plan yourself. So here is your steps to book:

    1. Pick a resort. Every resort has a different feel to it. There is a quiz you can take on sandals.com that is pretty accurate. I would also highly suggest one of the resorts in Montego Bay, Jamaica (Montego Bay, Royal Caribbean, or Carlyle). The resorts are minutes from the airport. Sometimes the planes are a little loud but you don't have to sit in car for 2-3 hours after arriving from the airport to get shuttled across the island. Also, you can shuttle between the Montego Bay resorts for free. Sandals MB is bigger, lively, and more the party crowd. Sandals RC is still a good size, but more private, romantic, and personal. Carlyle is a tiny boutique. We stayed at RC and shuttled between RC and MB a lot because we liked the party atmosphere at MB but also liked the romantic escape at RC. I'm not sure about the atmosphere at all the other resorts. I know that Ochi is huge and has a big party atmosphere.

Step 2: Decide what level you want. DH and I stayed in the cheapest room they had at RC. We had a great time, but it would have been nice to have an ocean view or upgrade to Club. Club level has their own lounge (which we probably wouldn't have used), a couple special events like a wine night, and alcohol in the room. Butler level has a personal butler who will reserve chairs for you, make restaurant reservations, and do anything else you want. Honestly, we didn't get any of the fancy levels and we loved it still.

    3. Book it online. Seriously the easiest thing.

    4. In the meantime, look at the different excursions offered. We didn't book until we got there, and I'm glad because they gave us advice on some of the more popular ones and were able to tell us how far of a drive they were too. However, it was helpful to have an idea of what we wanted.

    5. Go on your honeymoon! As soon as you get there, go to the reservation desk and make restaurant reservations and book your excursions. Stuff fills up and every excursion isn't offered every day. Also-order a Dirty Banana every day at the bar. You will thank me later.

@Nicole -- THANK YOU!! your information is really helpful for when him and I start researching hard about which resort works for us. He mentioned Grenada, but I like the idea of being able to go back and forth between different resorts!

Thank you, thank you, thank you all!

I know St. Lucia has the resort hopping but I think it is a full hour drive between La Toc and Halcyon. That's 2 hours of your day that you don't get to be eating something delicious, drinking something fruity, or lounging somewhere beautiful.

People on here have spoken highly of Whitehouse as well, but it's a loooong drive to get there. Also a reason to wait to book excursions-they have specials. DH wanted to swim with dolphins. When we got there, they were running a special to upgrade the dolphin experience.

Good point... definitely something to look into. I'm totally fixated on whatever a dirty banana is, and that sounds like something right up my alley!

We looked at Sandals, but ended up booking with Couples. It was a better price, got better reviews on TripAdvisor, and had many excursions included that were extra at Sandals.

We chose Sandals LaSource Grenada, so excited! We have a butler suite with an infinity pool. We chose Grenada because of the short travel time from the airport, the waterfalls, diving, rum distillery, chocolate processing plant all near by. It's the newest resort, and the food is supposed to be phenomenal!

I found them to be very expensive. We are going to Aruba and staying at an all inclusive.

We did Sandals Royal Caribbean and it was amazing! We loved being able to go between the three resorts in Montego Bay. Also, DIRTY BANANAS

We're going to Sandals Grande St Lucian - just booked through their website with the flight package and they had a random flash sale so it was about 50% off! So glad to hear so many of you have been there and loved it Smiley smile
