Sand ceremony Song

Kristin, on May 29, 2010 at 1:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Anyone have any suggestions for a song to be played during the sand ceremony? I want it to fit the atmosphere of the sand ceremony. If that makes any sense.

For us, we are having our Officiant do a reading... and our dj will be playing our song insrumentals in the background. We figure it isnt really going to take that long and didnt want to barely get into a song and have it end.

The ceremoony is what's it is all about, we are having the unity candle and the song that I want is the prayer (song by celine dion & andrea bocelli) I think the lyrics are so beautiful. Just met with the organist and went through all the music to be played at the ceremony. There are so many decisions for the music. But, the unity candle can be almost anything that you like. Just make it what you want and like.

Having soft instrumental music in the backgound is perfect. It keeps the focus on what you are doing, and a unity sand or candle ceremony usually takes less than 30 seconds. It can get a little awkward standing there waiting for a 4-5 minute song to finish! If there is a specific song you like, cut it down to a shorter version, or just include your favorite verse.

Devon makes a good point.... We often cut down the song to the 'chorus' only or verse and chorus to fit the time. Most of your better musicians and DJ's can adapt the length to fit however long it takes you to complete.

Devon and Music Meister are so right. 30 seconds or so is all that is needed. I often play a chorus of "The Wedding Song" by Paul Stookey.

The Sand Ceremony is beautiful and inspiring. However, it does take a rather short period of time, so having something that can be cut down in time is ideal, as MM and Wedding Harpist commented.

I will add one little exception. If you're having a vocalist, you might want to lengthen it just a little. I think your guests would enjoy it.

Well my idea for a song got shot down at our wedding this past thursday. The officant said if we were doing a harpiest or something on those lines it would have been fine but he was doing a reading so it was hard for asong to be played and to be able to do the reading at the same time.

The reading our officiant is doing is 30-45 secs long. We are gonna kinda practice next week to see how long it takes him to read while we are pouring. But like I said in the background the instrumental chorus to "I Do - Cherish You" will be played
