Sand Ceremony Reading :)

Ana, on June 19, 2010 at 8:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

What do you all think about this reading for the sand ceremony, yes, no? If you know a better one post please!

read by officiant:

Now you will no longer fear the storm, for you find shelter in each other.

Now the cold cannot harm you, for you warm each other with love.

Now when strength fails, you will be the wind to each others wings. Now the darkness holds no danger, for you light each others path. Now you will defy despair, for you will bring hope to each others heart. Now there will be no more lonliness, for there will always be a hand reaching out to aid you when all seems darkest. Where there were two paths, there now is one. May your days together be long upon this earth, and each day blessed with joy in each other.

I like that one. Our Sand ceremony is simple. He is just explaining what the sands ceremony means. This is what he'll read.

Amber and Jamie will now perform the sands ceremony...

[prompts couple to go ahead to pour the sands]

Each one of them will pour their own sand in a common vase - the symbolism being that each one brings their life, experience, feelings and uniqueness into this marriage, the family they start here before you. The

united sands represent the love which they have for each other, the family they will build together, and, hopefully, the new life they will nurture

    together.

“Mark and Amie, today you join your separate lives together. The two separate vessels of sand symbolize your separate lives, separate families and separate sets of friends. They represent all that you have been as an individual. They also represent your lives before today. As these two vessels of sand are poured into the third vessel, the individual vessels of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual vessels, so will your marriage be.”

Ana - ours is very similar:

    (Name) and (Name),

Now you will feel no rain,

For each of you will be shelter to the other.

Now you will feel no cold,

For each of you will be warmth to the other.

Now there is no more loneliness,

For each of you will be companion to the other.

    Now you are two bodies,

But there is one life before you.

Go now to your dwelling place,

To enter into the days of your togetherness.

And may your days be good and long upon the earth.

We are doing the sand ceremony with my FH's 8-year-old daughter. Our officiant will be reading the "Apache Blessing."
