Sam's Club membership....

L + R, on August 19, 2014 at 11:25 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Can someone explain to me how this works? I purchase the membership, then I get the discount? I never shop there and it seems silly to purchase it when the discount equals the same amount as the membership amount. I feel like I'll be wasting money.... I may have a friend that has a membership. Is it perfectly okay to ask to use theirs? I mean, I'll be paying for the flowers myself. I'm not asking them to buy them for me or anything.

You pay for the membership in order to have the privilege of shopping there. They won't let you in the door without it. I think the membership is $40 or $50/year

If your friend has one, you can certainly use hers, but she (or he sorry) will have to go with you. Your friend can only take one guest though.

    Thanks GameCox!

But, I guess I meant to mention that this will be an online purchase of bulk flowers.

I've been told that Costco is better. I've never been there but someone once told me that with a certain membership, if you go so many times a year, you get your money back that you put into the membership.

You buy a year long membership (because you cant shop there without one unless its alcohol) for $50 and then all the food is priced at warehouse cost. You walk in, get your membership in and card at the service desk, walk to the other side and start shopping, pay at the checkouts, give your receipt to the door checkers and load it in your car.

Technically you aren't supposed to let others use your membership, but FH uses my card all the time (we're on the same account) and I have friends that actually have a reprint card and they look nothing like me.

ETA: meaning you can use your friends card without her there

@Dr & Mrs R...Costco DOES give you money back. Thats the membership FH and I have. Its $100/year but you are guaranteed a check back at the end of the year for $49 (taking it back down to the original member price) and then you earn cash back for everything you buy...last year we got back a check for $90

I have a BJ's membership and love it. It's only $40 a year and I save that on gas alone. I've been thinking about switching to Sam's Club because it seems like it has more options. You could definitely go with your friend and use theirs but I would go with them beforehand and see if you want to get the membership yourself, mine has totally been worth it.

If that's all you're planning on using the membership for then I would just ask your friend to use her card to get in and make the purchase. I don't think it would hurt. Otherwise, if you think you'll shop there periodically for the rest of the year then just pay for the membership. It comes in handy for me at least. I buy things in bulk like toilet tissue, laundry detergent, drinks, fresh and frozen veggies, lost of stuff.

My friend just text me that she never renewed her SC membership. Bummer.

I generally buy bulk from Amazon since I have Prime. Thank ya'll for the tips. I've compared prices with Costco and SC still beats the floral prices so that's where I'll be ordering... Now if only I can avoid this $40 membership fee Smiley winking

Have you also tried grocery stores? I am using a grocery store for my flowers. Granted, it's only personal flowers (my bouquet, 5 BMs, 8 bouts, a grandmother corsage, a toss bouquet, and a bridal portrait bouquet) should be about $400-500.

Even when ordering online they will ask you for your member number.

Just spend the $40 on the membership because it saves you so much money on flowers. Then you can use it for food the rest of the year (since you say you get your bulk stuff from Amazon). They have good prices on meat, spices, bread and lettuce, in particular.

@Miss to Mrs....My FH is OBSESSED with Costco, he pretty much thinks that if we cant get it there, then we don't need! Seriously, he's ridiculous....most people dont seem much money back (but since you are guaranteed the $50 back, which brings it to the cost of the regular membership it can be worth it). We go every other week and also shop for my dad as well as a friend and his wife us our account as well, so that does benefit us in the long run getting some extra money back. I'd always had one through my previous job but it didn't benefit me much and I refused to run in there for just toilet paper

When you buy flowers you will need your membership information. The credit card should be in whoevers name te membership is in.

The flowers at SAMs are way less expensive than everywhere else.

I use my membership for things like dog snacks, dog tick/flea medicine. Lettuce. Bananas. Random fruit like that is WAY cheaper than a normal grocery store.

I've got a Sam's membership - my company actually gives us a $25 gift card for renewing. Check and see if there are any benefits like that. We've got both Costco & Sam's--they're pretty much the same BUT since Costco doesn't carry the kitty litter we use, Sam's it is, lol. What is the difference between the discount & the membership fee? If the discount exceeds the fee, seems like an easy decision. Nothing says that you have to renew next year Smiley smile
