So...my older sister got married a week ago. I loved her venue!! My fiancé and I havr been engaged for 6 years, 2 children as well. Our oldest son passed away 8 years ago. We never really got ourselves financially back on our feet. I am newly nurse and we arr getting there. At her wedding tbey had pictures of people who are deceased. Our sons picture was there. The wedding coordinator asked my mom who it was. She explained and yold how we wanted to get married but could not afford the wedding. She told us she would give us a discount if we booked with her. So we booked it today at the same venue. My sister is pissed!! I am blown away. I didn't know that was wrong. Is it? She was in thr summer ours will be next November. And it is a hefty discount. I am soo confused. I was soo excited and now i feel terrible. I thought of it as a compliment. I have been with my fiancé for 12 years...not like we got engaged yesterday. We have been planning a long time.

Fallinlove2017...first things first -- I'm so sorry about the loss of your son. Both of my children, 31 and 33, are alive and healthy, so I'm not going to pretend I have an ounce of understanding when it comes to what you and your beloved have faced.

Your sister can shove it. Sorry...was that too blunt? If not, let me say it again. Your sister can shove it. She wasn't coronated on her wedding day -- she was married, and then she hosted a reception. Fabulous. That doesn't mean that she has an eternal right to tell every other family member that she/he can't host a reception at her (rented for five or six hours) venue. I find it even more despicable when the dynamic includes a couple who lost a child and have an opportunity to have their reception, at a discount, at a particular venue that empathizes with that level of loss, and they do that because, they, like most of us, are feeling human beings.

Don't you dare feel terrible. Unless their name is on the deed, they need to accept the fact that they rented a venue on one day in one month in one year. Beyond that, it belongs to whomever wants to and can afford to rent it (at the full price or with a discount). Knock your celebration out of the park, OP. Refuse to discuss this unbelievably painful (and idiotic) situation with anyone. Send your invitations and let the RSVPs fall where they may. Honestly, no arguments, no discussions, no debates when it comes to your venue.

    I hope your wedding rocks.

I can't imagine a situation in which I would be mad that my sister was able to afford a wedding that she and her fiancé would love. I'm sorry that your sister is having such a negative, immature reaction to the kindness this venue is showing you. Hopefully she will be able to accept it and be happy for you.

As a fellow November bride, prices are typically discounted due to it be off season. She is probably mad thinking that people's memory of her wedding will be overshadowed by yours due to the same location. Bottom line she needs to put her big girl panties on and get over it! Enjoy your day! Can I ask what day in November?

I would be mad if your weddings were within the same week or something like that, but months apart is fine. It's only been a week since this happened. She will get over it.

    Sorry for your loss.

The fact that your sister is upset instead of being happy for you is terrible. Hopefully she gets over it. I loved my venue and would be thrilled if someone I knew also booked it because I want to attend another wedding there!

I agree that maybe she's jealous that you're getting a discount and she didn't. I wouldn't worry about her. She's your sister, I'm sure she'll get over it. I'm having my wedding in the same venue my mom had hers..... she even suggested it

I dont see why she needs to be angry with you...and you dont need to feel guilty. You deserve your day! And it shouldnt matter where, she needs to be supportive

Sorry for you loss. Smiley sad I think she just felt her wedding is no longer unique. That is a bit selfish.

It's not like you asked it was offered. So that's all the more reason to not feel guilty.

I hope she realizes she overreacting and calm down.

Idk but for me I always tell me sisters about great deals or places to go to. So if I love the venue that much I would have recommended it to them, but that's just me.

I agree with @lynsey. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! I'm sure she is just upset in the moment but will be so happy for you. Congrats on finding a venue!

I sense some jealousy here with your sister. Her wedding is over so why does she care so much about yours or where you have it. If i was your sis i would be happy that my former venue can help make your wedding dreams come true.

Honestly your sister is a being a stuck up little B. Considering you guys lost a child and she's acting petty. Have the wedding and enjoy yourselves! You deserve it and I'm sure your oldest son would want you guys to get married!

I am so sorry for your loss.

I could name 15 people that had the same venue I did when I was married before. Big deal. Screw her...don't let her take your happiness away.

I'm sorry for your loss; there is little that is as devastating as the loss of a child.

She is being ridiculous about it; she should be happy for you. And that was lovely of the venue to do that for you.

I dont' see what the big deal is honestly; we've done many weddings where the siblings have used the same venue, officiant, dj or bands; sometimes everything. It'll be a totally different party because you're totally different people and of course, the time of year is different.

I'd drop it for right now; she might just be overly annoyed because it was new news.....I bet in time she'll soften. And if she doesn't?

    Too bad.
