Hi Brides! My wedding day is slowly approaching and I'm finalizing some last minute details for our major vendors. So far our menu includes cocktail hour; mini chicken and waffles and warm crab dip w/ tortilla chips. Dinner includes choice of salmon croquette or southern fried chicken (boneless) with garlic parm mashed potatoes, three cheese mac and cheese, asparagus, and dinner rolls. My question is ALL this food and plus the bar, do we really need a salad? I've been to weddings where if a salad was offered people only picked over it and some didn't even touch it. Are salads really necessary?

I went to a wedding many years ago and the food was indescribable and I was so thankful there was Salad 🥗 even though it did I look great I was starving and it was pretty good. The longest wedding ceremony ever and 22 on on each side total 44 in their wedding party . And they ran out of food so the salad was a god send! Food for thought 💭 lol!!!

We were going to decide to not have salads but our caterer insisted. Thankfully she decided we wouldn't have to pay for it it will be complimentary. With all the food you will be having I wouldn't think it would be necessary to add salad to it as well.

I personally think you should think of your guests, and do you know any that would eat the salad?I'm almost vegetarian and love salad, but unless its a really easy to eat salad, I would avoid it....I've been told to include some greens, but i'm opting for a beet salad....don't think plain lettuce is worth it

I would have one because everything on the menu sounds good but very heavy. So a salad just is a nice option to have. Even though I know not everyone is so fond of it aha.

I think this is a "know your crowd" kind of thing. We had our salad bar refilled multiple times during our reception. But everyone in my family chows down on salad.

Salad is a great lighter option if someone isn't starving or has diet restrictions! We had a lot of vegetarians who loved the salad at our wedding! I think it gives people a lighter option for a side dish as well since all of your sides are very hearty.

Thanks Jocelyn, this was exactly my reasoning behind maybe not having a salad. We are having alot of food and I want the reception events to be the main focus instead of the food. Plus we'll be having wedding cake also.

Hi Andrea, this is great insight! Our salad that we would be having if we did opt to have one would be a classic Cesar salad. i agree that I don't think it's worth $300 for just lettuce, dressing, and Parmesan cheese

Yea, you know your family best. But I would guess they wouldn't miss a salad if you didn't have one since there will be a cocktail hour menu to hold them over till the dinner.

Yes, I agree. Our crowd isn't vegetarian but the meal is definitely heavy and comforting. We may add another vegetable like carrots instead of doing a salad.

Yes! You said it right, lol. We are thinking about adding another vegetable like carrots since we are leaning strongly towards removing the salad.

I agree with most people on this thread. Salad is great if it fits in your budget!
We have a few gluten-free vegans on our list, so we need a salad so that there is something for them to eat too! (We have also requested a few special meals for them).

I'm a huge salad fan! so i would always say yes to a salad. lol i would say get one only because some people might not want to eat ALL that heavy stuff so a salad is a nice lighter option.

I'd go with whatever your caterer suggests. Ours always does a plated salad prior to the meal as a transition from cocktail hour to sit down meal service, so that is what we are doing.

Not everyone likes asparagus so a salad would be appreciated.
