Salad at Wedding Reception

Would you be disappointed to not eat salad at a wedding reception? I do not like salads and our caterer will provide cooked veggies with dinner. Of course we will provide vegetarian/vegan meal options. I'm just curious if you would feel cheated to not have a salad before your meal.

Absolutely NOT! While I enjoy salad, it can often be so boring.
My Fiance and I were just going over our menu the other night and with so many unique and fun food options to choose from, we are NOT putting something like a salad on our menu. One thing about us is, we are so into food. So at our reception our guests are going to get a chance to explore and try new things.

I would expect a multi course meal with a black tie event. Maybe u should do some research on blacktie events so u will know the level of service that is expected.

Casual, formal, semi-formal, whatever, I'm pretty sure no one will miss the salad. I know I wouldn't and I enjoy a good salad. As long as you have appetizers/entree/dessert, your guests will be just fine. If they're disappointed they didn't receive a salad, oh boy! Haha.

Absolutely not, salad sucks Smiley laugh Smiley laugh and it isn't sexy to eat, if i brought a plus one, I'd look like a cow chewing it up. I don't feel like you have to have a salad, if you don't eat salad, don't have salad. I mean who makes up all these rules about mandatory salads anyway? Just say no to greens. Smiley laugh

There’s a certain level of hosting expected when you have a black tie wedding. If you aren’t having a salad, and yes I’d expect one, you need to replace it with a different starting course.

I was considering five courses but removed the salad dish thereby reducing it to four courses. I love salads, but I was at a party that had a five course dinner and 90% of guests didn’t eat their salads because we were so full and mingling. It seemed like a waste, in my opinion, so my husband and I removed it. I wanted to minimize waste but even then we had so much food leftover.

Now that pps mention it I guess it would make sense to have a salad as a course to match the formality of your wedding, but before reading those comments, my immediate reaction was honestly, I would not have thought twice about there not being a salad lol. Maybe that's just me, but I seriously don't think I'd notice!

90% of people don't even eat their salads... Don't tell me that LOL! Your four course meal sounds like fun.

Thanks for your comment. Our wedding is 13 months away and we could change the formality of the event if we wanted too. I will let my FH decide and if people miss eating salad, I can send them to him to complain. Smiley winking

I agree with Kelly! We are doing black-tie, and will be serving a soup and salad course. I know you don't like it, but your guests probably do! Are you doing another course prior to the entree???

Nothing wrong with salad. I have been to weddings where salad was served before the main course.

You can something different that's light, and complements the rest of your menu that's not salad. I would talk to the caterer about alternatives.

If there are appetizers served other than salad then i probably wouldnt notice. I think I'd only notice if there were no apps and the diner portions were rather small
