Salad at Wedding Reception

Kyla, on October 3, 2018 at 3:07 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 40

Would you be disappointed to not eat salad at a wedding reception? I do not like salads and our caterer will provide cooked veggies with dinner. Of course we will provide vegetarian/vegan meal options. I'm just curious if you would feel cheated to not have a salad before your meal.

How formal is your wedding and your meal? If it’s a bbq buffet I wouldn’t expect a salad. If it’s a formal wedding with a plated meal I would expect a salad.

I don't know for sure if I would notice. But I know for mine, I have a guest that will be there with a ton of food allergies/intolerances and my guess is that she will make a big salad at the buffet and that may be all she eats depending on how she feels about the other food. We will have other stuff there she can eat but I know she doesn't like to risk it.

No salad needed... I have been to many weddings with just a plated meal with entree, veggie, and starch. No one will miss a salad.

That's a good point. If nothing else, a guest could eat lots of salad lol

Black tie means multi course plated meal. I would expect a salad and possibly an amuse bouche course as well.

I was going to say that probably no one would notice if you didn't do a salad but then saw you said your wedding was black tie. Black tie implies a certain level of service and in that case as a guest I would expect a salad course.

I will not feel disappointed if there isn't a salad. Especially the easy, plain leafy green kind. I like it when couples choose to have other light options instead like crab cakes, soup, bruschetta, etc.

At a black tie wedding I definitely expect a salad. Is there a reason you want to skip it? Is it for cost reasons or just because you dislike them? I'd include it for those who do enjoy a salad because it will be expected with the formality of your event.

I would definitely expect a multi course plated meal at a black tie event. Not black tie? No problem, but you'll need to uphold the status of this type of event if this is what you have decided to host.

I would expect a salad with a black-tie event, but if it were a more casual event, I wouldn't notice. There are other light options you could sub instead of a salad so that you aren't losing a course. Maybe a soup, or bruschetta like a PP mentioned. Smiley smile

Just wanted to skip it because the groom and I never eat salads. I never touch my salads when at events or dinners. We will keep the salads because we want to maintain the formality of the event that everyone will expect. Thanks!

Because you're having a black-tie wedding, I would absolutely expect a salad. It goes with the formality of the wedding.

Good point. I wasn't thinking of the salads as one course in a multi course dinner; just thought of the salads as a nuisance lol. Thanks for your comment.

Personally, I would be fine as long as you have enough total food for people to be full and you accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies.

I would expect a really nice salad, not simple greens with cucumber and tomato slices and a bit of shredded carrots with buttermilk dressing. I'd interesting vegetables and other ingredients and an elegant vinaigrette. Remember that taking care of your guests means providing appropriate food for the event, not just things you like to eat.

I would expect a salad, especially for a more formal event. Generally salads are one of my favorite parts of the meal. I would caution you against taking the likes/dislikes of you and your FH and using those to determine your menu. I would instead consider what the average guest would like, and I think most prefer a salad.
