Rustic glitter theme??

Private User, on May 21, 2015 at 10:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

Hey everyone,

I'm working on centerpieces for my wedding in September and I can't figure out what to do that's in my budget. My colors are plum and silver glitter. We are using sunflowers, purple flowers and baby's breath. The reception is at a retired train depot so we want to do something a little rustic. Would rustic clash with the glitter? I have a pic of the centerpieces I'm thinking about. I just didn't know if rustic and glitter could go together or not! Any suggestions of cheap but pretty centerpieces without flowers. I'm thinking of doing the centerpieces like the picture or using a mirror instead of the tree cut out. Opinions please!! Thanks!

I think you could mix glitter and rustic as long as the glitter elements are subtle and not overwhelming. For example, if you decide to do a centre piece like you have in the photo, you could purchase some silver glitter spray paint and paint the mason jar, while still having all the other rustic elements. ETA - you can either use glitter spray paint, or modge podge and glitter to get the effect.

I think this totally works together. The glitter brings some glam to the rustic look. Have you tried typing in glitter rustic on pinterest. I just tried that and saw some pretty cute ideas!

Like this, but in context of the overall centrepiece in your picture

This absolutely goes together! I love the contrast of the two. Try searching for "rustic glam" too.

Use glittery ribbon around the mason jars. also you could use glittery table runners.

If rustic and "glitter" are wrong, I don't want to be right!

I used a lot of diy faux-mercury glass candle holders, pine cones with a hint of metallic paint, bark/log candle holders, twinkle lights and moss in Ball jars, sequin table runners . . .

I like your suggested centerpiece. Mirrors would definitely be cheaper than wood slices (unless you can cut them yourself), but I am a big fan of wood slices, so I'd go that route. You could also do maybe smaller, coaster-sized wood slices of different heights to arrange your candle holders on, which would probably be cheaper and add more dimension to your centerpieces.

Thanks for all of the tips ladies! I think I'm going to recreate the picture I posted, but also add some extra votives or smaller mason jars around it with floating candles. I don't want anything huge or expensive. My reception venue provides a bunch of stuff to rent for free with the reception fee and I think they have the wooden rings. Either way thank you all so much!! Smiley smile I can't wait!!!

We're doing rustic and glitter, so I definitely think you could work them both together!

You can do anything, if it's done right!

The centerpiece you posted.....I'd do a 1-1.5 inch glitter band around the center of the mason jar. Done.

There is also glitter votive candles that you could use around the plain mason jars. I feel that sometimes less is more.

I love the idea of adding something feminine and romantic to rustic decor! I think the added sparkle gives the touch or special that sometimes rustic decor can miss providing. As long as you are using the right touches, it can be an exciting change of texture. .....To be affordable...adding sparkle could be as simple as taking a natural, normally rustic looking item such as a mason jar or an apple or some branches and painting them with glitter. i'm not using many flowers either, but using a few succulents here and there to add a bit of green without being expensive.

I just saw something where someone spray painted the baby's breath with glitter spray paint. I think it was on pinterest. Looked cute, that might work?

We did rustic and glitter and it went together really well. I made all the wine bottle myself and it wasn't hard to do at all.

Doing mirrors would be more expensive unless you find them at the Dollar Tree. We found these silver platters are Dollar Tree and they worked really well.
