Running out of money? Short vent..

Amy, on April 28, 2012 at 10:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

Anyone else feel like they are running out of funds? I have everything very carefully budgeted, but we aren't getting any help from family. We had some money saved away and now I feel like its going to be gone before I even pay for the expensive things.. I'm starting to get extremely stressed out... Smiley sad

I hear you Amy. Stick to your checklist. I started with the biggies first - dress/catering, photography, DJ and rentals (venue is free since we are using our home). Then I calculated decorations/flowers (all DIY). The further down my list an item is means I can cut that if needed. I am reaching the end of my budge too so no chair covers/sashes, no favors.

    Hang in there girl!

Are there some things that you can diy to save money? Hit up the dollar store, thrift store and discount shops for deco, candy jars, etc. And like Linda said, get the big stuff that you can't live without first, then see what's left to work with. =)

Very good advice from Linda! Thats what we did! So now we have all of our big thigs and if we run out of money and dont have favors, its not a big deal!

We are in the same boat. We still have a cushion and are about 75% paid off, but this last bit to pay for has been the most stressful. Take a deep breath, see if there are any other ways you can save between now and the wedding, and do the best you can. There are probably some things you don't need or could get cheaper if you looked hard enough.

I would pay for the big stuff first. DIY whatever you can or willing to do. Search high and low for the best deals. It took me months but I was able to find great prices on some venues. One isn't technically a wedding venue but a community club house in a retirement community but it's amazing. Don't mention the word wedding for some of the things. Like center pieces.

Thanks ladies.. every detail has been DIY.. no real flowers, I made all the bouquets, bootineers, centerpieces myself.. plus we are getting huge discounts on some of the major things since we know alot of people in the 'wedding' business... hopefully it will all come together! Small things just keep coming up and i cant handle it!

Those small things really do add up! It seems like every week there are another couple of things I need to buy - small things, but that money takes away from our "big things" money. I agree with Linda - prioritize all of your big stuff and see what you might be able to cut if you absolutely have to. For example, we're hoping to be able to have the money for everything, but if worst comes to worst, we will cut the limo.

I know how you feel Amy. We had money saved and made sure we paid for the venues first. After that, we had to work extra hours and to make sure we had the funds for everything else. As of now, we are on target, but I am cutting my flower budget just to be sure.

I am doing real flowers but I am getting carnations. I can get 300 for $150. For me making my table cloths is cheaper than renting or buying them. My sister is helping me make my flower girls dresses and table cloths. I am not having a limo, videographer, no wedding planner, doing my own center pieces, bouquets, DIY as much as possible. I am doing partial catering.

Maci, sounds similar to my situation. We are not having a limo as our venue is literally right around the corner from our house! no video, planner none of that.. our friends are doing our food so we will be saving a ton doing that. Our friend works at a linen co. so she will be lending us table clothes.. my girls are doing their own hair so no salon for us!

I'm running low too..Smiley sad( wahhh. We still owe 4,000 for the venue, a 1,000 for flowers. I'm kind of hoping we get a few NO'S for rsvp... lol. At least that will bring down the cost in food and alcohol...

Amy and Pearl, I get you both. I am in the same situation. Luckily my parents are paying for everything that has to do with the dress and my FI parents are florists so they said they can do our wedding. I have been so stressed out lately bc we are getting really close and I feel that we have so much that we still have to pay for. We are about to finish paying off the venue, but we still need to pay off rentals, photog and video, and the dj and cake. Meh I think I am going to go insane. We have already sent out the invitations and so for out of 120 guests, 61 said they are coming. We started freaking bc that's half of our guest and we were sure not even half would come. And we have people bringing extra guests after we already said no and it's just insane. We were originally going to do a photo booth and popcorn bar but with most of the funds going to the food, i think we will just do the photo booth. But we will see. OH and pearl we are date twins Smiley smile

I had that feeling only because its just A LOT to pay for. A month ago FH and I decided to right out the checks or amounts needed that we'll have to give to people that day and paperclip them to envelopes with the cash in it. First we put in the amount we saved into the envelopes with the biggest amount like venue/caterer, photographer, florist. Then we started on the smaller stuff like the photo booth, limo, alterations, accessories, etc. We put more into the envelopes every 2 weeks, until they have the amount needed. Then we'll go and deposit the money the Monday after we give everyone a check on the wedding day.

I know it might seem a little nieve to keep that amount of cash in the house but we have a safe with a combo lock so that's how we can do it.

It keeps me sane! ...because I can actually see that we have the money for each expense.

I was actually thinking of doing that same thing! I was going to put the money into envelopes and label them, venue/food/ect. Just so I can see what I really have... I only have the big things left, and with 11 more weeks, and our regular bills to pay... I might do the same thing!

I have run out of money. My wedding is in less than 60 days. I still have to pay for the cake, bridal hair and makeup, bridal trial hair, hotel room the night before and after the wedding, the maid of honor's hair and makeup, because she can't, and half and half for the bar the day of the wedding. I payed for it all myself too, and have put myself into huge debt because of it too. I have no idea how I am going to pay for these things. I can't get any more loans. I still need about 1500 dollars, and I don't how I'm going to pull it out of my rear. Thinking of selling some things to make the finish line.
