rude people on the Knot message boards!

I went to The Knot for the first time yesterday and was surprised at how rude some of the posters were! Especially the moderators, they're like nazis. What I've seen is where the bride-to-be will post something, maybe it's kind of a stupid question, but who cares? The other posters and moderators will totally insult her, and if she defends herself the moderators will say that her comment is not appropriate and threaten to delete her posts. And by "innapropriate" comments, they mean when the bride says something like "I didn't ask X, I asked Y"... Here are some examples-

I've found the ladies on WW to be really friendly, open and helpful. It's a shame that friendliness doesn't exist on such a popular site as the Knot. Needless to say, I will KNOT be posting

there!

I don't know. I just read all the posts and yes sometimes the brides got a little mean but that was only after the poster got upset about everyone not agreeing with her. I love WW and I think everyone is very nice but sometimes people just agree too much. I know I have posted something similar to this but when you ask for advice people are going to give it whether you like it or not. Sometimes a wedding isn't all about the bride. Sometimes you need to think about your guests and your wedding party and the other people you are effecting. Sometimes its nice not to hear do whatever you want its your wedding. Why bother to post anything at all if all you are looking for is for people to tell you are right and to be on your side? The brides on the Knot probably should have gone about it another way but they were just being honest.

WOW! I cannot believe some of the rude comments on that board! I'm so glad that I don't post on there. I'm the type of person who has to have things "sugar-coated" when you're telling me something bad/that you disagree with. I would probably be very upset and offended if I posted something on there and got comments.

    I *HEART* WW! Smiley smile

I'm on the Knot more than I am on WW (for planning) and I recognize quite a few of the people who replied to the threads. The rudest people I've seen are from the Planning & Etiquette board (aka P&E) and they usually very blunt, slightly abusive and will jump on people for being oversensitive. Also, it appears to me the girls there are in a clique and don't care for newbies at all. To get a reasonable and less rude response, the local board is much better and so is the Wedding Club board for the month and year your wedding is taking place (that's what I used, but granted, I was lucky that there were great girls on those two boards). Besides, it's YOUR wedding, so take any advice you get with a grain of salt and trust your gut instinct. Also, you gotta remember, the Knot doesn't allow vendors to post (unlike WW).

I am very pleased that WW allows the vendors to post in the "Bride" forums. It accomplished a couple of things. It allows us to hear your real issues and understand what you're looking for in a (sort of) face to face conversation... and it allows you, the customers, to see our perspective on things... a win win situation.

Over on the vendor forums, we have started putting our names at the end of our posts... in an attempt to personalize us with eachother... a great move, and it draws us into a friendly group mentality... it works!

    Larry.

I second the girls who mentioned the helpfulness and kindness on the Wedding Month and Wedding Location boards. The national boards are definitely unnecessarily harsh. There's a difference between helping somebody see reason and saying nasty, personal things for no reason.

Honestly, those threads really don't look that bad (compared to some I've seen). It mostly looks like people gave their honest opinions. It may seem "mean" or "off topic" to some, but I don't think that was the intent. Like the bride that wanted to make a bag for her MOH. Others thought it wasn't the best idea, and I think she took it as a personal attack.

The last one with the bride who wanted her bridal party to go barefoot was WAY out of line. She was down right rude to begin with, and insulted people who didn't agree with her.

I second Larry's post -- as a photographer, I really love that Wedding Wire lets vendors post and answer questions that brides have. I'm with the bride through the WHOLE wedding, unlike most vendors, so we see a lot and it's nice to be able to give advice to brides that are planning.

I'm on the Knot too, and only participate on certain boards. You would think this would be a happy moment with getting married and all, but some ppl on there dont have a life and would rather bash each other everyday.

I used the KNOT and registered, to find ideas on Invitations and Cakes, that was a month and a half ago, I haven't getting back, mainly because I'm here reading peoples post and commenting, BUT I just didn't like the interface of the site, and I'm sorry, the first forum was ridiculous, all the chick said was "it wasn't an etiquette question she asked, and thew MOD twisted her words all around, she didn't violate, it just wasn't what she asked and she let her know that wasn't want she wanted... she'da been in violation if she'da called her a Stupid COW, or some randomness like that.... but whatever the KNOTS for Losers, WW is "The Peoples Champ!!!"

I used to be on the Knot aswell, i asked a simple question and got trashed beyond belief, they made me feel like crap. they called me a bridezill well clearly THEY are the BRIDEZILLAS! one poor girl asked a question about how to politely ask a BM to step down and was replied with " i bet your husband is going to go on a website and ask questions on how to get rid of you" no lie, its was horrible. i havent been back since. those girls over there are bridal bitches and most of them have been married for god knows how long and shouldnt even still be there. its like if youre not having a platinum wedding then youre treated like trash on the knot. and yes the moderators are just as bad as the actual brides.

I know I'm late, but I so agree!!!!! Here I was attempting to win our wedding contest, asking other brides to help by voting for us, AND THEY RIPPED ME ONE BIG TIME!

LADIES, BE VERY VERY CAREFUL ON THE KNOT. THOSE BRIDEZILLAS TAKE THINGS A BIT TOO FAR! In the budget section, I posted a "Please help us by voting for Clarence & Camisha at www.DreamDateWeddings.com THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!" AND BOY OH BOY, YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE THE RESPONSES I GOT! TERRIBLE.

I tried to explain how I was still a budget bride, still had many bridal expenses to figure out because the contest doesn't pay for everything....even explained how we have survived a cancelled wedding which cost us a huge loss, and even in the middle of a family crisis! Shucks...I even shared that on this past Monday, I had a shooting at my home, even have a bullet hole in my car! I sincerely apologized for offending them and that just made it worse! One had the nerve to say, "Blah, blah, blah... we all go through things" After reading that nonsense, i just thought to myself "yes, BITCH...we all have obstacles....but I'm sure bullets and detectives isn't one of yours! get real and get gone!"

I had no idea how strong this concept of Bridezilla really is....UNTIL NOW! BEWARE!!!

I have 5 brothers so I work better with guys and the one time that I really try to get some female opinions they were so rude and hurtful that I am embarrassed for my gender! I would not tell anyone to use theknot.com you can find things on other sites without the stress of being criticized.

I have been a member on the knot since I got engaged..I truly only did it for the free website which is now on my save the dates so I am kind of stuck, I typically do not post anything in the message forums and now I know why. I am having a bit of wedding drama with a bridesmaid of mine and I posted about it, now I will say the way I wrote it could have been done better now that I read it a couple times because parts of it do sound bad..however I have 62 replies on my forum about what a POS I am, and just horrible things. I then proceeded to leave a bit of advice to another bride who posted about something and this other person whom had commented on my post a while ago brought up what I had said on this other message board..I'm like really? Come on, they all copy and quote and it'll just follow you. 62 replies of horrible, swearing, name calling It's ridiculous. Yes I look bad with some of the things I said but I didn't mean them the way they came out.

I know this post is really old, but I am so thankful for it.

I recently posted something on The Knot (asking a simple, albeit naive question) and received a lot of backlash for it.

I then decided to be the "bigger" person and apologize for offending anyone... but they weren't having it.

Even the person that seemed to have been a bit more "understanding" started to become more sarcastic after each post. I really didn't understand what I did wrong. I was being called stupid, immature, and a low-life.

I just deleted my Knot account about an hour ago because of the attitude I caught from some people. One of them outright called me ridiculous when I mentioned that my fiance and I are having a five-year engagement because we want to save up enough money for it. (I was going to respond to this person and explain that we also want to have a decent nest-egg for our honeymoon and when we have children but then realized, Why do I have to explain myself to you?)

Hi, my name is nerdybride...and I'm a TK rudeness survivor LOL

I LITERALLY just deleted my TK account because I asked the forums what to do about a bridesmaid who grudgingly accept the role, so I let her off the hook but she was trying to pretend she really wanted to do it...apparently, they thought my expectations for her reaction were too high. The topic deviated to bashing the fact that I wanted uniformity in shoe color, which turned into being told my bridesmaids gifts were sh***y and I could "do better." I deleted my acc't because the forums are horrendous and apparently what they like to say when they successfully run "another crazy one" off the boards is "and another one bites the dust."

That site has a gang mentality where clarifying what you meant invites more of them to try to make you look bad for being so defensive.

I've browsed the forums here briefly and the feel is VASTLY different. I have no regrets.

I can genuinely empathize with all here with similar horror stories.

May 2017 (edits, oops! June 2017) and the Knot is no better than it was. What a hateful site. I'm here to check out Wedding Wire and feeling hopeful about it. :-)
