RSVP: Good Idea -or- Bad idea

Juli, on November 28, 2016 at 12:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 30

If you received an invitation, along with and RSVP card asking for a song request that would get you dancing, would you find that weird? Or awesome?

I saw it on Pinterest and was intrigued. I liked how it was a way to get your guests involved and hopefully a way to get people on the dance floor. That's probably one of my biggest fears, no one getting their groove on.

I forgot to add it on my RSVP card, but was considering a little print out and attaching it with a ribbon.

I attended a wedding where they did this and it was a very weird mix of music. Maybe vet the songs if you are going to do this?

My brother did this. It worked well. It gives you a good idea of what types of songs your guests want to hear.

ETA: I don't know if he actually played all of the songs requested, but it is still a good idea.

My friend did this but then we were bummed our song didn't get chosen!

I thought it was awesome when I did receive one that asked for a song request, and I considered doing it for ours. Turns out our DJ has an online request form, so we made a page for song requests on our website.

We did it. However, we had so many responses, plus guests requesting songs at the reception, that many RSVP-write in songs weren't even played.

Those were some of the cons, if you will, of offering requests to guests. I figured it would be a great way to know what your guests want to hear, but at the same time I can see how some guests may be bummed their song wasn't played.

I've been to weddings where this was done. It's like requesting the dj to play a song in advance.

We are doing it, but instead of on the RSVP we are doing it on our website. We've had a few responses already! It is always interesting to see what others enjoy. We will give them all a listen and add them to our list if it is something we like or think would get our group going.

I like the idea of it and was considering doing it myself...but now I think I'm going to steal LeahH's idea and just put it on the wedding website! Smiley smile

I think it's a fun idea! I doubt people will think it's weird. If they don't like it, they'll just skip over that part of the RSVP card.

I think it would make a nightmare for your DJ. You hired them to do a job, and then are essentially handing them a playlist. Why even have a DJ? You might as well just run an iPod playlist at that point.

Even with a guest list of 50, figuring on a 3.5 minute average song, that is 3 HOURS of your reception music, NOT being chosen by the DJ.

The DJ is hired to do a job. Let them do it.

Don't do this to your DJ. They are paid to concierge the evening, and the ones that we refer do just that.

I have it on my website in case people care to suggest a song (I think it is helpful for the guest that I really am not sure what type of music they like) but I know myself and I would not want to read through all the RSVP to compile them and I would not want to give my DJ a list that long of songs.

Also I got a RSVP to a wedding with a spot for a song and it took me a lot longer to send it back (still sent it on time but I usually like to send it back as soon as I get it) I am indecisive and kept it longer to think about songs I might want to hear lol

I would ask your DJ if that would be helpful or not.

My friend did this a couple months ago and it was super neat! It was exciting to hear my song played Smiley smile

They played more of the non-dancing songs during dinner, and saved for the dancing songs for later.

Thanks for all the input ladies!!! It's one of the many things I appreciate about this forum. Lots of different insights from different view points. There is some things I need to chew on before I consider something like this. Thanks everyone!

Also, to add, we did check with our DJ before we did the request form. He was okay with it.
