RSVP Date too soon???

NG, on May 28, 2013 at 9:02 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

I put my RSVP date for Sept 14. My wedding is Nov. 10. Is it too big of a gap??? I plan on sending the invitations latest by August 1st. Skipping the STDs altogether. I feel our guests have enough time to reply, but am I doing it right or should I have selected a date closer to the wedding?? I know them, they're irresponsible, they probably still won't even RSVP. what do you say change the date or leave or alone and panic about actual important things like not having a dress yet???

No, about a month before your date is normal. That gives you enough time for the late RSVP-er (who will send in the RSVP ON the date) and for you to get in touch with the non reponders.

    Edited:

Oops sorry, clearly I was thinking your date was OCT 10 and not NOV...so scratch what I wrote above...it's too early to pay attention right? LOL

But, yes, that is too early. About a month before is enough time, but two month is too much.

I think the gap is too big, but I had the same problem as you are expecting to have- hardly anyone even RSVPed at all. If you are having local guests though don't expect them to know if they can come two months out. OOT guests should know that early though.

And you still have time for the dress : ) But start looking!!

I did 5 weeks between RSVP date and wedding. I know that I will end up having to call or email about 15% of my guests. Mostly my side. I know etiquette says 4 weeks...

MY RSVP date is 9/14 for my 10/12 wedding... the OOT guest need to book their room by 9/11 and the reception hall needs a head count by the 28th this gives me 2 weeks to track people down.

I think yours is too early.. I would make it a month later...

Whoa. Ours is November 30 and my RSVP date is November 11. I was thinking about moving it to November 1, but thought that would be too soon.

I thought I did mine early but it was printed a long time ago. I choose June 29 for August 10. I didn't want it mixed up with 4th of July and I figured it would give me time to chase down the no rsvps. That will give you time to do seating chart, favors, and escort cards.

You want it about 3 weeks to a month before if it is catered. My caters wanted a rough head count by 3 weeks before and a final exact one by one week before. You need time to track down the late rsvp people. Some people have the odd idea they only need to send it back if they aren't coming. And you need time to get the stuff done you can't get done until you know how many is coming.

Ehh, I'm going to leave it like that. My family is irresponsible; they need the extra time. I don't need exact numbers til the monday before the wedding but there is no way I'm letting them know that!!! And I want my numbers at least 3 weeks before. Thanks ladies!!!

We did ours about 6 weeks early only because we know that it's going to take my people a good 3 to 4 weeks AFTER the RSVP deadline to get their stuff in. :-)

Only you know your family and friends.

Yes I would think it's too soon and you will be all frazzled when many haven't sent one back. I would have it dated by the time you need a final head count.

I sent my invitations out may 15 and have an RSVP deadline for June 15. We need to have a final head count and dinner selections in to the venue by June 28. So that will give me 2 weeks to call people who haven't sent back the RSVP yet and get everything finalized.

I agree 2 months is a long gap. My venue told me to give them 30 days.

But since you didnt do STDs, maybe you send out of towners theirs a little earlier? Just so they have time to plan accordingly.

Only because we are sending out STD, we are going with the 30 RSVP deadline. The reason we chose to do both the STD & 30- RSVP, is because we will have out of state guest attending.

2 Months is way too long -- a lot of people may not even know if they will be able to attend by then. I don't really think this will stop you from having to make calls in the end.

It does seem like too early, but I'll have to do the same thing too. My caterer needs to know our final headcount 8 weeks ahead (annoying!) which means I have to send out invitations 3 months early and have them reply within 2 months. I'm sending mine out in November and asking for a reply by December for my February wedding.

The venue wants the final count 6 weeks before the wedding (November 9th) so we need our responses by September 30th. Sending out the invitations by September 2nd. Some people are super slow to respond

I was asking the same. Against advice, I made my RSVP date 2 months ahead due to many guests and needing an accurate headcount sooner than later. I'm giving them until October 16 for my November 16 wedding date before calling. It'll give time inn case they forget or what not. It's never too early to get the ball rolling because people will wait until the last minute! The sooner the better for budgeting and also it'll get a large guest list down quick and save money, which is my planSmiley smile I agree with you and I thank you all for your advice as well.

Wow caterers asking for final numbers 8 weeks in advance is crazy! Mine is requesting a final headcount 3 days in advance. We did our RSVP deadline for August 15th, our wedding is September 6th. We wanted 3 weeks so we could track down anyone who hadn't RSVP'd, but thought making the deadline an easy number to remember (August 15 vs August 16) would help. So far I only have responses from 50% off the guests though.
