RSVP Cards-Food Options

Allymonbanana, on February 8, 2016 at 2:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Hi everyone! We are in the process of creating our wedding invites, I am stumped on the RSVP cards for the food option. We are having a buffet for dinner and will offer chicken, meat, seafood and vegetarian options. We are really only worried about not having enough vegetarian options for our veggie guests. We are planning on asking our guests to mark if they are specifically vegetarian so we can ensure an exact count. (we don't want to order more veggie options than needed, since they may not get eaten). Is this odd to just ask our guests if they are strictly vegetarian? What can we put for the wording on the RSVP card? Thanks all for your help and suggestions!

How big is your guest list? I pretty much knew who all the vegetarians were on my list, or at least enough to give an estimate. I wouldn't include it on the RSVP since you are having a buffet.

I would put "please indicate dietary restrictions" or something like that.

RATR that is a good suggestion.

I would also say, as a non-vegetarian I would probably still grab a vegetarian option from a buffet. I wouldn't think it was "for vegetarians only." So you may just want to plan for as much as anything else.

We put something like this "please indicate below any dietary restrictions and we will accommodate " and had a line for comments below.

Staci makes a great point, is there a plan to make sure the veggie option goes to vegetarian guests or can you just plan to make it available to everyone?

So guests could take chicken, seafood and "meat" (what do you mean by "meat"? Chicken is meat...). They could take all? But vegetarians just have the one option and you want to know how many of those to provide?

I just called my vegetarians and asked what they'd like.... if it's up there though, other non-vegetarian guests may take it because they might like it better like @Staci said.

Thanks everyone! I think I will add a line about dietary restrictions. In this day and age, one day someone is a vegetarian and the next day they are eating steak. I just wanted to have all my bases covered.

We discussed this with our caterer. He was able to make some plates for the vegitarian people. We plan to put a place on the rsvp for diet restrictions and put (gluten free / vegetarian) etc.

Be careful with asking for dietary restrictions... you might get folks who expect that you can accommodate their vegan / gluten free / allergies / other preferences. I empathize with folks who have very specific dietary needs but it's very challenging to accommodate them all especially for a buffet meal!

We asked for number of vegetarian meals on the response cards versus asking for dietary restrictions because we won't be accommodating vegans, gluten free, etc. We decided this was the easiest way to know for sure how many vegetarian meals we needed.

We put a blank line that said "please specify any dietary restrictions" so it covers everything (veg, gf, allergies, etc). It was way easier than trying to chase down all the vegetarians and risk not knowing that a BMs date was gf.

@Lindsey, what if one of those gf has celiac? You're going to make someone very sick because you're not willing to accommodate someone who spent time and money to celebrafe your wedding.

Hopefully they will let us know if they have a real dietary concern. We have a small invite list and don't know of anyone that has a true dietary restriction but I have a couple friends that I am sure would prefer a vegetarian meal over a filet or some kind of chicken even though they aren't true vegetarians.

My caterer has vegetarian options that are also gluten free... That way both bases are covered

On the rsvp cards, I'm giving guests an option to choose buffet, vegetarian, or gluten free.
