RSVP cards and menu options?

Nicole, on February 18, 2013 at 11:32 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Hi ladies! Fiance and I really need to order our invites, the only thing holding us up is that our meeting with the caterer isn't until next month, so we have no idea what menu options (if any) we will have.

Do most people include menu options on the RSVP card or just follow up later?

If we don't list meals on the response card, any suggestions on how to easily obtain choices from guests at a later date? I don't want to do an online RSVP, but if I could somehow make an option for guests who have already RSVP'd to give their meal choice online that would be wonderful. Any other ideas?

I think most people put it on the response card. Depending on the size of your wedding you can always call but make sure you're not trying to track down a lot of people. That will just add more work for you.

How long did your invitation company tell you it takes to print and ship?

    rsvp June 24th

    mail out May 20th

    address May 1st - May 20th

    Order April?

You seem to have time to get the meal choices.

They said it would probably be about six weeks before we have the invitations in hand.

Yea, you have time to wait for the invites. 6 weeks would give you them in May which is when you would be sending them out. Otherwise, bump up your catering meeting because you need to put that on there if it is a served dinner and you are giving choices. If you are just doing like a surf and turf and everyone gets the same, then you dont need it.

For our reception, we needed the reception count (including food) 7 days before the wedding. Just add it to the RSVP card - people will happily mark it off. You really won't have time to check with each guest on their food selection as it gets closer - many other things to do.

Keep in mind that your food count is by person but the RSVP is usually a couple so make sure they can mark off different options for what they want. We kept it simple - Beef and Seafood on the cards since we hadn't worked out all of the catering details by the time we ordered invitations. I think we put the specifics on the wedding website once we knew them. If you're having some children attend the reception, you may also want to consider a kids menu option. I didn't want to pay the adult entree for food they wouldn't eat.

    Good luck!
