RSVP Card Etiquette

Kora, on February 8, 2021 at 7:58 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 38

I am currently thinking of ways to write out or RSVP cards (and save money!). With that being said, is it "okay" to not include an envelope with the RSVP card and encourage guests to use our link for our website to RSVP. If so, how would you word this on the card?

Thank you in advance! Smiley heart

I created a QR code for my guest to scan that took them to my wedding website where they can RSVP

We had a reply address printed on the RSVP card, and offered the choice of replying by email ( to a special throwaway account,) to a landline phone with an answering machine for when we were out. No stamp or envelope. All international sent email, and totals about 1/3 email, 1/3 phone, and 1/3 found a stamp and envelope and mailed it. We had our very last reply 5 days before RSVP date. Every one answered, one way or another. It was pretty easy.

That's perfectly fine and the "modern" thing to do. My card says something like please rsvp via our wedding website by X date, and then has a like to the site. No rsvp card included to return. If you have any older guests or guests who don't like technology, you may need to reach out to them for their response.

We aren’t including an RSVP card. We are having an insert card that provides the link and instructs them to RSVP on our website by a specific date. We only have three older relatives, so we aren’t really worried about people not being tech savvy enough to do it.

I feel like people are a little bit more tech savy these days and they might just go online because its the easiest way!

Did the card say "RSVP" on it and then the link underneath or did you just include the card with the link on it? Smiley smile

If you’re not going to include an envelope, just skip the RSVP card and do online RSVPs only.

Yep! It says RSVP in a script font that matches the actual invitation and then the link. Here's my card, but I added in "please rsvp by" to make it sound kinder haha Smiley smile

That varies wedding by wedding. You know your people. just make sure there is a correct reply address right there. Those motivated enough to get an envelope and a stamp rather than go online, are that many you don't have to chase. Take it any way you can get it.

I would do a small RSVP insert (like the size of an index card) directing your guests to RSVP on your wedding website and providing the website link. No need for an envelope

Why? people have found their own envelopes and stamps for every wedding pur huge family has ever had. It is not traditional Etiquette to send an envelope or stamp, to get a written reply. People send them hoping it will help. And that more will reply sooner. But the traditional thing is to credit people with the ability to find a paper, and envelope and a stamp. Like adults. And the generation not into websites, all have the old fashioned manners to do it. Or to make a phone call.

We didn’t use RSVP cards we put a link written out at the bottom of our invitation to RSVP on our wedding website however older people do not know how to use the links and so on and ended up calling us or we had to call them to get an answer
