Ripped my nail off - 9 days out

Christina , on July 4, 2019 at 12:06 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 10
I’ve had acrylics for about a month and a half now. I love them, I’m comfortable in them, etc. Well today FH and I were play fighting and a nail almost completely tore off... The acrylic nail is attached to my real nail but only the bottom part of my real nail is still attached to my finger... OUCH!!!
Luckily it’s on my right hand and we were able to trim it down but there’s no way we’re getting the acrylic off or changing the color of the nail for the wedding... unfortunately it will just have to be covered with a bandaid 😕 The current polish is gel so it needs to be soaked off (which would be excruciating) or filed off (not happening - OUCH). I’ll try asking my tail tech next week if there’s anything she can do but booooyyyy does it hurt lol.
Kind of sucks that I’ll have to wear a darn bandaid on my wedding day but when it’s all said and done I think we’ll look back and be like “remember when you ripped my nail off 9 days before our wedding” 🤣
Now I’m just on a mission to find a bandaid that most closely matches my skin color and is just the right size.
Wish me luck!!

I’m so sorry!!! You may still be able to get it fixed, I’ve had that happen many, many times (had acrylics since I was 16, and now do SNS) and you’ll be shocked by how quickly the nail will grow in the next 5-7 days. There’s a good chance it would be grown enough to be salvageable with little pain.

It’s my first time and it was as painful as I imagined! It didn’t hurt so bad today though. Definitely still sore!

Never again will I have acrylic nails for this reason. Good luck finding a bandaid! I ripped mine off about 5 months ago but my entire nail came off. It was my ring finger. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve just now got a little bit of a normal sized nail large enough to put some paint on.

I’m so happy it was my right hand! I wish the whole nail would just come off 🙄 I’m going to go to an urgent care tomorrow and have it looked at because it’s looking nasty lol. I’ve never had issues with acrylics but when I went to get the done for my bachelorette party my nail tech suggested getting them longer than usual so that when we shave them down they’ll be the perfect length for the wedding...

This literally happened to me and I got it to heal in a a little over a week! Mines was over a softball game *palm to face*

So I went to the nail salon for them to buff it down as much as they could. Just let it breath, and clean with peroxide and rubbing alcohol. In 5 days the acrylic was already starting to lift and I kept "lightly" buffing for two days. After that I was able to get all of it off, asses what was going on and get a new nail on for an event. The key is making sure the acrylic is thin enough to let it heal and clean so it doesn't get infected.

Side note: there are two polishes from sally I have used to help keep my nails strong and recover. 1. "Starting over (blue bottle) 2. Calcium Boost ( clear bottle with "milk looking substance) both are a couple of bucks!

    Good Luck!

Omg thank you so much!!!! My nail was looking really good today and actually wasn’t lifting from my finger!
I trimmed it down really short and used the cotton swab and foil method to get the rest of the acrylic off. I worked really well!
My finger is sore and bruised but the nail is still not lifting from my finger anymore (YAY!)
I think I’m the next few days it’ll be healed enough for another acrylic BUT I’m leaning more toward getting all the artificial nails removed and getting a gel manicure instead!
