rip off?

ShanesAly, on August 27, 2009 at 10:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 32

Okay so me and my FH found what we thought would be the PERFECT place to get married. Its a small venue and were gonna have a small wedding. Its pretty new it opened this summer. but heres the problem. My FH emailed them to find out their rates and they charge $5000 for a friday or sunday wedding and $6000 for a saturday wedding. we want a friday one. but if we move it to after oct 16 itll go down $1000. My question is, is $4000-$5000 a rip off for a place to have the ceremony and reception? cause thats just the site fee. They dont do the dinner or anything they have a list of vendors they approved and you can only use them. Is the site fee plus like $50 dollars a person too expensive and a rip off for a wedding of under 100 people?

sorry i hope that wasnt too much rambling

It really depends on your area, but for around me, that's kind of steep. My site is charging $45 a head minimum 100 people, and that includes everything short of decor and attire.

That seems a little steep, at least for me. I couldn't imagine, paying that much money just for space.

I know i was so surprised that it was so much since theyre so new and not well known. i also dont like that we have to choose from a list of vendors they approved. i just love the place its so pretty and exactally what i wanted but i dunno if im willing to pay that.

I agree with PP... there are a TON of venues around MD (where I live) that charge an additional site fee because they are either on the water or in a location with an amazing view etc, these fees can range from anywhere between $100 and $8000. THEN on top of that you have to pay for everything else. I agree that I think it just depends on what your looking for... you can certainly find places that will not charge the additional site fee, but you may not get the same experience or what you want out of it... I would suggest maybe looking around a little more, you may find something you like for a tad cheaper. Smiley smile

Too me, that seems like a rip off, that's ONLY the site fee? nothing is included with that?

That is waaay too much to pay just for a venue. Find a cheaper location and put the $5,000 toward the food.

I agree with Melissa. I am also from MD and when I was looking around I found several places that had site fees of around $4,000 or more and I decided not to go with them. I found a great venue that doesn't have extra fees. They are out there you just have to look. Unless you have no problems with the site fee then go for it because that sounds pretty average for my area.

I guess it depends where u live, i'm in miami and my venue was $4,800 for 100 guests on a friday night for 4 hours, and that includes EVERYTHING! food, flowers, limo, open bar, photo, video, dj, cake, even the guest book, serving set and toasting flutes!

One of the weddings we did in MD this year, the couple had left out a price breakdown sheet. Site fee at a country club was only like $500. Granted, they may have made it up in the cost per head, but it isn't going to be THAT much more to get it to the site fees you mentioned!

We paid $3000 for our venue. It includes an outdoor ceremony site and the reception building, along with all the tables and chairs for both, and use of their kitchen. I can however bring any vendors I want in there. I guess it just depends on where you're at. Oh, and we get the building from Friday at 8am to Saturday night at midnight, that way we can do all the set up on Friday and have the rehearsal dinner as well.

Thanks for all your opinions. I felt the same way but I was trying to tell myself that it wasn’t that bad because I’m starting to get discouraged because we cant find anywhere we like for a reasonable price.

I think it all depends on how much you like the location. If the location really is worth it to you then you'll just have to budget the extra money.

The first place I looked at was $7500 for 75 ppl (everything but photog, cake, flowers and attire were included) I loved it but it was just too expensive. The place I chose was $3000 for 75 ppl. It wasn't as all inclusive as the first place but it still included food, all servers, chairs, tables and linens and was just as beautiful.

My advice is to shop around. You may find something just as nice or better for much less money.

    Try this search:

    http://www.theknot.com/kl_vendorresults.html?keyword=COLORADO&category=CAR&market=020&submarket=47&capacity=3&price=2&style=&search_cache=amenities^capacity^price^style^submarket&x=15&y=5

you can enter what type of venue you are looking for max amount of people and price range

That's about average around here but most of the venues around here come with a consultant.

I think this is a rip off. I am paying $65 pp and this includes the dj, wedding cake, reception space, food, drinks, etc. And $800 for the ceremony.
