So I'm just curious on ring etiquette. I was under the assumption that when you get engaged you wear your engagement on your left ring finger, and when you tie the knot, your FH places a band on your left finger first, and then he places your initial engagement ring on. In that order. Since being engaged I have been paying more attention to women's hands and rings, and I happen to see women wearing there engagement ring on their right ring finger, or if they have already tied the knot the engagement ring on first then the band to follow on the left ring finger. I'm just interested in knowing is there one set way to do this? Do certain cultures and religion live by different etiquette? Please share your thoughts.... Im just interested in knowing...

I was unsure myself but I searched and asked family. I saw that engagement goes on the left hand and when marrying you take it off and groom places wedding band on first. Wedding band is said to be the closest to the heart then place engagement ring after.

I read a blog that some women said to put wedding band on last to ENSURE the engagement ring doesn't fall off. Then a gentleman stated that they want to INSURE the expensive engagement ring doesn't get lost. Lol my engagement ring is 6x the price of my wedding band but I still prefer to wear it on the outside. We have insurance so no worrying about losing it

I have a heart shaped stone and have heard 100 diff reasons why I should wear it toward me or away, so I just wore it on my left hand the direction I wanted. Our officiant advised on the traditions involved with the rings for the ceremony, and for the wedding I opted for the standard, wearing my band first... My other two rings are on based on the best fit/comfort.

'Traditionally' in European cultures (for whatever that's worth in our wonderfully diverse society) women wore their wedding ring on their left ring finger first, then the engagement ring, the idea being (or so I was told, but who knows for real) that then the wedding ring is closer to the heart.

As you can tell from answers here, people wear their rings in all sorts of orders for all sorts of reasons.
