Rings - get soldered or no

Kathryn, on April 9, 2016 at 1:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

So we just picked out wedding bands yesterday! Mine is going to be a custom band so it will fit flush against my ring. The lady at the jeweler mentioned I could solder the rings together. I had never heard of this before. Is there a benefit to this and if I did this is it better to do before or after the wedding?

I did this and I'm so glad I did because it keeps my rings together. But I wouldn't do it until after the wedding

I will need to get at least on soldered because they spin freely, even though they sit flush. I won't get both soldered until after so that he doesn't have to put the whole thing on...

I've kept mine separate for 28 years. I like to have the option to wear just the band without the e-ring.

I plan on having mine soldered together, the jeweler said sometimes when you don't, the rings spin, rubbing against each other and over a period of time, they could actually warp a bit. I don't know if that's true, but just the spinning around all the time would drive me crazy.

It depends on whether you'd ever wear your wedding band on its own. I never take mine off (not even to sleep or shower), but I don't wear my e-ring all the time. If your wedding band is designed to be worn with the e-ring, it makes sense to have it soldered.

I'm keeping mine separate. I work as a nurse, and I don't wear my e ring to work, so I want to be able to wear my band once we get married.

I will probably get mine soldered eventually. My e-ring is a simple princess cut solitaire on a white gold band and my wedding band is a simple band with pave diamonds- but they only go half way around the band. So my wedding band flips around all the time and half the time the ring is backwards or half-way around my finger. I want them together so that it stays the way it was meant to be seen.

A lot of people get them soldered. I'm not planning to. By keeping them separate, I can take off the engagement ring and only wear the wedding band at times when having a bulkier ring on doesn't make sense. My e-ring also has an intricate design on the sides and isn't really meant to be soldered.

It keeps them from spinning around separately and makes sure they always sit flush together.

I definitely will not solder my rings together. There may be a time I want to wear my wedding band without my e-ring

I soldered mine and am so glad I did. I have two wedding bands that go on either side of my e-ring, I can't imagine the hassle of dealing with 3 separate rings rather than having them all together.

I soldered mine because they had to be custom made to fit around my ering and when they slipped out of place they looked awkward. I'm so glad I did.

My rings are family heirlooms. They belonged to his great aunt and she kept them separate. Then they belonged to his mother and she had them soldered. Well they broke and she hadn't wore them for years. My FH had them repaired. The shanks had to be replaced on both rings. I'm not sure how they broke apart but I'm thinking they broke because they weren't meant to be soldered together in the first place. I plan on keeping them separate because I don't want to replace anymore of the original rings. If they were more flush I'd have then soldered together but I don't want to risk them breaking again.

It's a good idea to get them soldered together so the rings don't damage each other. (I used to work in a nice jewelry store)

It also looks nicer usually and it can be annoying to have them spinning and hitting each other on your hand. -that's how they get damaged

Yes there's a benefit... Without getting them soldered you run the risk (well, certainty actually) of damaging both rings because they'll wear on each other rubbing together...

I'm getting my soldered together because they are made to fit together.

I will be getting mine soldered after the wedding because the design it meant to be that way because it was a bridal set. Plus the rings spin. After a while they can get damaged if it isn't soldered. I believe my jeweller only charges about $40 dollars to get it done.

Mine aren't because I can't wear them on the same fingers. But my mom soldered hers and had it formed into one ring. I've worn it daily for four years (after she died) and I get more compliments on it than my own engagement and wedding rings.

My jeweler suggested it but I'm not sure I want to. We have a lifetime warranty so if I lose a diamond they replace it free.. I can't imagine not having either ring to wear

I got mine soldered together because I have 2 thin wedding bands. Can't wait till I can wear it next week.
