Ring resizing at Kay's?

How long does it take to get rings resized at Kay's? They send it out to another location, correct? I'm a little nervous about that. What has been your experiences?

My soon to be MIL gave me her first wedding after getting a new one fir Christmas this past year. Its gorgeous and almost a full karat but its silver and a size 11! I'm a 5.5. No one eamt to resize silver because it can compromise the Integrity of the Ring especially that many sizes down. I probably went to 10 places that told me no. I ended up at Kay's and they said they could do it. They have had my engagement set since February 27th and said it would take 2 weeks. I'm praying to get it back by the 13th and in good condition. That many sizes down scares me! I will update

To be honest, FH works for a jeweler (an independent one) and after hearing all the horror stories, I would NEVER trust one of those companies (Zales, Jareds, etc) with my ring. I've heard of people getting their stones taken out and replaced with lesser quality or fakes, rings getting damaged, you name it.

That's also not to say you should walk into any old privately owned jewelry and give them your ring either. I would look at reviews and word of mouth reviews too. I'm lucky knowing that FH's boss and his jeweler (who actually makes the jewelry) would never do anything to harm my ring (or anyone else because of their reputation).

    Former Kay worker here:

The typical quote time is 2 weeks. Sometimes they come in sooner, but it really depends on how busy the shop is, the time of year (holidays), and the proximity of the shop to your particular Kay location. Some shops aren't the best, and those are of course the ones you will hear about online, but there are others that are stellar. Ultimately, it's the same as any other location, whether the company is big or small--the quality depends on the professionals working there. When I was working at Kay, if there were any issues with an item, I'd call the shop, harangue them, and get it taken care of, and only THEN call the customer to either tell them it was ready or that it had to be sent back. Ultimately, you want to give yourself 1-2 extra weeks before your wedding or another event you *NEED* your ring for, and I'd honestly say that about any shop with any company, big or small.

I had mine sized down from a 6 and a half to a 4 and a half. 1 diamond fell out, three are loose. When I went to pick it up the associate said they actually should have just ordered my ring in the right size because the integrity of the ring was now at risk. This was at Kay’s

I’m recently engaged, Valentine’s Day to be exact and my ring had to be shipped off for resizing. It will be ready March 9th. It’s only been a couple of days without the ring and I already feel separation anxiety just waiting for March 9th. It’s gorgeous guys, I wish we had of looked into other jewelers for resizing. The wait is painful 😭
