To keep the warranty on my ring I have to take it in every 6 months to get it cleaned/inspected. Took it in yesterday, everything was fine, the woman cleaned it and then helped us look for a band for FH. She was pushy and seemed inexperienced. She also made a comment about my ring saying that I'll definitely want to "upgrade" in a few years when we have more money to spend...ugh. After a while someone else came over to help us and we picked out FH's ring.

Fast forward to this morning- I woke up & noticed that one of the side stones is missing from my ring! I just took it in yesterday to get it looked at and the girl said it was "great!" so I'm wondering how she missed it?! Now I have to wait 2 weeks for it to get sent out and fixed. UGH so annoyed, more with the girl than the fact my ring is gone. I had it for 6 months in great shape, she runs it through the cleaner, and now the stone is gone! I'm so frustrated (probably unwarranted). Anyone else have bad jeweler experiences??

2 weeks after I got my ring a diamond went missing luckily I had the warranty too. But that sounds terrible and very rude.

I used to work in a jewelry store. Yes, that lady was super rude.

As far as the inspection and missing stone... She probably inspected it, everything looked ok, she put it in the ultrasonic cleaner then which vibrates the dirt out and can loosen stones that are at risk for being lost (tiny stones in settings that don't have awesome security) and then when she used the high pressured steam cleaner (think of it like a power washer) it blew that stone out. She didn't do it on purpose, it likely would've come out at another time. It just happened to come out when she did all that.

So that totally sucks and I'm sorry. Go get it repaired and just keep in mind that is something that very commonly happens to certain types of settings. Thats why those stores have you get them inspected every 6 months. They try to catch the loose stones BEFORE they fall out, to save themselves that money of replacing.

Ugh so sorry y'all have had to deal with this. Mine is a solitaire so I'd definitely notice if the stone went missing, but FH was super on top of things and got my ring insured before he even proposed. I know he got it at a small, local jewler, and he didn't mention anything about any requirements for inspections, etc. After reading these, I'm definitely going to ask him if I have to get it inspected or anything at any regular time to keep the insurance/ warranty.

Got me engagement ring from zales and we were there last week looking for bands. The sales man had my ring while he was trying different bands with it. He handed me back my ring and the actual band was cracked. Never seen a ring crack like this, sales rep tells me that sucks, come back with the receipt. I was upset to say the least and will not be buying our wedding set there.

Kays has a bad reputation but honestly if you find a good salesperson they will really take care of you. My dad had all of my moms pieces done by them and they're perfect. It all depends on the jeweler they use

I would be pretty upset too. When FH and I first started looking at rings, we went to Kay and they sized me as a 7. The '7' the guy gave me was even a little too tight. I don't have any nice rings aside from two I got back in high school and they're both 7 but they're a little big. So when FH actually bought my ring he ordered a 6.5 just so it would fit snug. It was way too big. So I got sized a second time at the jeweler he got my ring from and we got my ring resized to a 5 3/4 and it's still too big. Not just a little bit either. It's visibly loose. I don't understand how that's possible when the 5.5 I tried was too tight. And I definitely haven't lost any weight. Although I plan on it before the wedding (which means I'll have to resize my ring again haha).

Think about it, whatever crud you had on your ring (dirt, soap, hairspray, food, etc) held that diamond in all this time if it had been loose. She washed all that off and then it fell out. Don't blame her. The little stones fall out frequently.

And commenting on an "upgrade" wasn't supposed to be rude. Usually, girls pester about upgrades to their husbands and FH. We are just trying to be on your side in encouraging the upgrade

My mom told me it's always a good sign if the jewelry store fixes things on site as opposed to sending it out. Just for those of you to keep in mind.

Oh gosh I've had terrible things happen with my ring. When FH went to buy it, we had gotten sized the week before. He tricked me and said it was to resize a ring he bought me years before. When he went back in to purchase my e-ring the sales person refused to size it. She said she'd rather me come in to find out my size. We had just talked to her about my size! So I go back after he proposed to size my ring and a male associate sizes me at a 9.5! I told him it felt really loose and I needed to go down a bit. He said "oh no it's because it's cold out". Stupid me trusted him. Those ring sizers always feel different to me. The ring came in and it was huge! I had to wear it with a plastic sizer because I refused to give them my ring again. 6 months later I lost a stone. We go back in. I'm crying because my ring has been at the jewlers more then with me. The manager came out and asked what was wrong and I told her everything. She sized me and I was a 7.5! Everything is good now with the ring but gosh I was so mad!

    Sorry long vent post lol

I had a promise ring grime Zales and I was constantly having to take it in and leave for two weeks to replace a side stone. They'd say it was due to the resizing and that when a ring was resized sometimes it loosened the diamonds. This may be so, but dropping off my ring every two months two get it resized was not only impractical but bad service. Due to this, we decided we would not purchase the engagement/wedding ring from there.

Mine is from kay. The diamond was loose apparently so they had for a few weeks to "fix" it. 2 weeks after I got it back, the diamond fell out. I managed to find it. We took it to jared which is the same company but they have on site jeweler. They fixed it in a day

When I read that she suggested you'd want to upgrade, my mouth actually dropped open. That is so rude. I think you should mention her comment to a manager. She needs to be told that is rude to say, that makes me so angry.

Only my jewelry store can work on my ring, otherwise the warranty is void. FH is all about local business so he went to a small family chain (they have 3 stores in the region) and they have been amazing!!

FH & I had THE WORST experience ever with a jeweler. FH got my grandmother's ring from my dad so it just needed to be resized. Long story short, 6 weeks & $500 later, we had a ring that wasn't even smooth or round. FH had no idea how long or how much it should cost. When I found out I went straight to the jeweler to place my complaints. It ended with him telling me "he's a master goldsmith and I must have a really good eye because there is nothing wrong with the ring so no, he would not work on the ring any more." It wasn't even round and you could tell where they had done work! Seriously, biggest fucking joke of a jeweler in the world! I have dreamt of throwing bricks through his window front so many times.
