Ring Placement?

Private User, on February 15, 2017 at 7:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 41

All my life I've believed you wear your wedding rings a certain way. W-Band closest to you (or as the saying I've heard goes closest to your heart) & E-Ring in front of it. Today I was talking to a coworker who is also getting married & she said no you wear it the other way with the E-Ring closest to you & W-Band in front bc the W-Band seals the promise that was made with the E-Ring. Has anyone else ever heard of this? How are you wearing your rings?

I've only ever seen people wear it the first way, wedding band on the inside, engagement ring on the outside

Nope. I actually asked the jeweler because I wasn't sure. After the " I can't believe you don't know" look he assured me band goes closest to the heart.

I'm bunking tradition Smiley winking and wearing e-ring first, w-band second. Mine are mismatched, and it just looks better that way. My band is very skinny, and just disappears under my e-ring if I don't.

I have a Spanish professor wear here engagement ring first and then her wedding band. I asked her why and she said it was because that was the order she recieved them in. Traditionally, you have the band first.

Wedding band first and then the engagement ring. But I have seen many people wear it the other way as well. The people that I have spoken to that wear the engagement ring first and then the wedding band say that the wedding band locks both rings together meaning it seals their union. I think it come down to personal preference.

I've always heard e-ring first, as the promise, then band to seal the deal.

Most people do it the first way, but I don't think there's a "rule."

For me, I will be doing the 'sealing the promise' only because my e-ring is still kinda loose, even after resizing, so the wedding band will keep it from slipping.

Eta: the sealing the promise was how I always thought of it, until I got engaged and started reading other theories.

Yea I like sticking to tradition lol. But I can definitely see where @MichelleB. Is coming from if it looks better or even feels better to wear it the other way.... but I'm glad I wasn't thing wrong on tradition all this time lol.

@CoffeeNColor yea I think it's definitely more of a preference thing not mandatory.

Nope. I'm wearing wedding band first. I think you can pretty much do whatever you want though.

Wearing WB first is more common but there is no rule and I've seen them both ways- wear them however you like them best.

    @NicoleM. Definitely Swerve! LOL

@Judi. No not really I just had never heard of it that way. So I was wondering what's most common and traditional.

@Everyone I'll probably stick to the traditional way. W-Band first closest to my heart & E-Ring in front. Smiley smile

I've heard both ways I'm wearing wedding band closest to me just because I like that look better but it does make more sense to have it on the outside since you get married after you get engaged

Yeah, I'm a "I do what I want" kinda lady. Also no other ring will ever fit with my engagement ring. And I like that I will have bling on both hands.

I agree with you, it's the way my mom has always worn it too. In my mind the engagement ring goes closest to u cause u get it first and the wedding ring after to protect it as well. I don't think there's a 'wrong' way
