Ring guard? Two wedding bands? Help! :)

Carly, on September 28, 2015 at 8:21 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Hey guys! I've started poking around trying to decide what kind of band to get and I've always loved the two band look. Have any of you gone with ring guards/wraps? Would it be easier or better to just solder two separate bands to my engagement ring? The diamonds stop right by the solitaire of the e-ring on the ring guard, which I'm not so sure I love. The first pic is of the ring guard I like. I'll put the separate bands I was looking at in the comments. The cost doesn't really sway me one way or the other - they're pretty similar. Thanks for any help! Smiley smile

I'd go with a ring guard.

My original wedding set has a ring guard. I opted to get a smaller every day wedding band because with the ring guard, it's just too much to wear on a daily basis for me. I wouldn't solder your rings together unless you're 110% positive you're going to want to wear the whole shebang for the rest of your life. I'd just get the ring guard and call it good.

I want to do a ring guard b/c my band is SOO thin and I have chubby fingers...I think that would help with it haha. Or if not then i'll have 2 bands. my wedding band and then a band for like an anniversary gift from FH or something

I have a ring guard and i really like it. Pic one is my ring before it was sized, and pic 2 is my ring after sized and with the ring guard on it.

I have a custom fit wedding band. I looked strange when my e-ring was twisted one way and my wedding band was twisted another way.. and it causes a lot of damage to your rings. Anyways, I decided to have them soldered together. My jeweler said that its easy to separate soldered rings. I don't see myself separating my them, but its an option if I change my mind. Are you able to go to a jeweler and try different things on? Make sure you're comfortable wearing more or less 3 rings. It does feel different.. your ring will fit differently... The band you posted above does look thin so it shouldn't be too bad. Its gorgeous BTW. Smiley smile

I'd go with two of the bands that way if you don't want to wear your engagement ring it won't look strange like if you wore just the guard. We just went and looked at wedding bands and had this exact convo with the sales lady. I'm only going with one band right now and going to add bands for celebrations down the line. Good luck I'm sure it will be beautiful.

ETA I wouldn't solder the bands to your engagement ring either.

I went with a ring guard because I wanted a two-toned look. I'm not having it soldered because I want to be able to get the e-ring dipped in rhodium when it fades-turns yellowish.

I decided on a band similar to the one you picked because I liked the style better than any of the ring guards I saw. But I still like the symmetrical look so I am getting two bands to go around my e-ring. It also gives me the option to sometimes wear a band by itself if I ever choose to do that. In this pic, they are on my pinky because the store sample bands were too small for my finger, but you get the idea.

I liked the idea of a ring guard, but there weren't any that looked right with my ring. We went with one band for now and decided that on our 5 year anniversary I will get the second band if I still want it.

I'd prefer the two separate rings so there's more variety in how they can be worn but before purchasing, make sure they sit flush with your e-ring if that's something that is important to you. My e-ring is a solitaire and the prongs push out so much from the band that no regular wedding ring would sit flush. I finally found one that has a slight chevron to it that allows room for the prongs. That's probably why the guard has the space without the diamonds.

Thanks ladies! I hadn't considered thinking about them sitting flush with my rings, so that makes sense, and, Jess, the variety of having separate rings is a great point. I love the idea of adding bands for anniversaries/milestones. I think I'll be going to mess around with rings at the jewelry store this weekend! So many decisions.

MzRosaLu - I love that look so much!!

    C&K & Imtheone4him - your sets are both stunning!
