Ring Cleaning

The band on my engagement ring seems to have dulled a bit and even feels a little bit gritty. I fear using hand sanitizer so much over the last several months may have contributed to it 😰 I’ve seen that you can wash it with soap and water, but will that be enough? Or should I soak it in vinegar...

Or should I soak it in vinegar maybe? That seems to be my family’s cleaning go-to lol 😂 Also has anyone else been experiencing this with their ring? Trying to figure out if this may actually be from all the sanitizer use

Do you have a lifetime plan on your ring? I know on mine I can take it in for maintenance and cleaning every 6 months. They even told me to bring it in a week before the wedding so that they can make it as shiny as my wedding band and can look new again.

You can but the same ultrasonic cleaner on amazon for around $15-20, I’ve had mine for years. A squirt of dish soap and 2 cycles later you’re brand new.

I haven’t been wearing my good rings lately because I’m in healthcare 😭 but this is what I did pre COVID once a week. Now I wear an inexpensive band from Amazon (it’s titanium with CZ).

I use a James Avery cleaning cloth for all my real jewelry for routine cleaning that is amazing, there's also jewelry cleaning solution you can get for $5-$10 bucks that does wonders. I stopped wearing my real rings and got a silicone one for going out due to the hand sanitizer messing them up. There's tons of cute silicone options out there! Then you can still have something that shows your engaged/married! Smiley smile

Heyyy that’s not a bad idea! My fiancé wears a silicone one because he has a metal allergy, we could be matching! 😆😲💡

I have a white gold ring and just used a toothbrush and dish soap and it looked brand new.

Haha yes!! I love mine, it doesn't budge and they come in such cute colors! I work in a warehouse so I prefer to wear it even without using hand sani all day!

I started to notice a slight dulling on mine also from hand sanitizer. I now once a week soak it in a dish of soap and hot water for 15 minutes while I take a shower or do the dishes. Has made a huge improvement. I will probably have it professionally cleaned right before the wedding.
I have also gotten in the habit of taking my ring off when using hand sanitizer. That way I clean under the ring and the ring does not get too mush on it.

My local jewelry store cleans rings for free and checks the stones to make sure they aren't loose. I bought a $30 jewelry cleaning machine on Amazon that I use once a week too.

I've noticed my white gold engagement ring dulling as well! I was wondering if maybe WG just tarnished faster than regular gold or silver but I think it's from the constant hand sanitizer and profuse sweating in gloves at work for the last 7 months now that y'all mention it. Smiley sad

I've considered getting an ultrasonic cleaner but I've read on some jeweler sites that you need to be careful because some gems just should NOT be put in those and need to be gently cleaned by hand or else they'll be destroyed by the cleaning solutions?
My ring only has a small sapphire in it so I know there are specific cleaning solutions made for that kind of stone to be used in a ultrasonic cleaner. Just making sure others keep that in mind too maybe!
