Ring catching on everything - kite shape diamond

Ring catching on everything - kite shape diamond 1
So I got married on Sunday… and even with every problem on my wedding day the one and only problem I can’t solve or get over - my wedding band is catching on EVERYTHING 😂 my giant dogs collars, all blankets, my clothes, seat belt.. it even scraped my skin - not bad enough to bleed but very noticeable … I designed my own rings and picked each diamond… it’s exactly what I imagined and more 🖤 but this is a huge problem. My finger literally hurts. Does anyone else have a kite shaped diamond on their band?? It’s also a little big so maybe that or soldering it could help? I am at a loss and searched the forums but haven’t seen anything on kites. Did I make a huge mistake!?! I’ve tried it on top of my engagement band and below. I am very curious if anyone else has this problem with the kite shape diamond or if I’m just dumb and made a bad call!!!!!

It is beautiful, and I'm sorry you're frustrated and it's painful to wear! Looking at the first picture, it seems like it's just very big (as in overall scale, although maybe a little large for the finger too), so of course will move around and stab you as you bend the finger. Is it better when you wear it on the inner side, like the second pic?

I will say, my engagement ring has a reasonably high profile, and at first, like yours, it caught on EVER.Y.THING. I knocked it on things all the time and I was terrified I'd crack the stones. Here it is:

But, over time, I got used to it, and stopped catching it on every living thing. Maybe you just need to give yourself some time to get used to it?

I will definitely try to get used to it! But the sharp hook just may not be feasible 😩 My engagement ring was easy to get used too even though it was high profile. (Yours is gorgeous btw!!!!) I'm going to get it sized down and cross my fingers I guess!!!

Awww, thank you! And I do think sizing it down will help, because then it will stay where you put it, as opposed to sliding around so much! Hopefully it's more comfortable after that!

Does the bottom of the ring sit flush against your finger, or is there more of a gap like when you are pushing on it? If there is a gap between the ring and your finger, getting it better-fitted to your finger should help tremendously! Also, are you wearing it point up or down? I would think point down could potentially help with this (not sure though!). Also, if you are left-handed (and wear the rings on left hand), try switching them to your non-dominant hand that you don’t use as often when grabbing, holding things, etc.

My engagement ring caught on everything at first. I had an absolutely horrible time braiding my hair because it would catch in the spirals but now I am so used to it that I almost never catch it on anything. I even braid my hair without thinking about it again.

I agree with Rosie, it appears the sizing of your rings are a little too big. I don't have the same style ring, mine is pear shaped but I had a sizing issue. It was too loose but not loose enough to size down. There was a time I stopped wearing my ring because I was scared it would just slide off without me realizing it. I took it back to the jeweler who put in "weights", and now the ring fits fine. I would suggest taking it to the jeweler where you purchased the ring, explain the problem, and show the pictures, their in house repair person should offer some suggestions.

I think once you have it sized to fit you properly, it will help a lot. Once it fits you well, you will start modifying how you do things (without even realizing it) so that it will not catch. I have a starburst band that used to catch on stuff too (pic attached) but after wearing it frequently I noticed I must have unknowingly modified my behaviors because it doesn’t catch on things nearly as frequently as it used to.

Also, will you be sharing pictures/doing a BAM post of your wedding?! I remember reading some of your posts and loving your aesthetic- would love to see how the wedding turned out!

Throwing another vote in for thinking it’s too big.

Hi there! I love your ring! And I also agree with having the point down and making sure it is perfectly sized. I am so happy I fell upon this thread as well because I have been having the same problem with my ring. I love it so much but I am also having a problem with it catching on many things. I don’t notice it all the time, but on certain things. I also agree it just takes time to get used to it and you’ll start to change the way you do things. I had it sized as well and had it soldered to my kite diamond ring and I believe that helped. Any more ‘pointers’ on things that everyone has noticed that will help, please add!! 😉Ring catching on everything - kite shape diamond 7

I have a pear shaped diamond and I wear the pointed end facing my fingernail. It's also pretty high profile. I used to catch it on everything but eventually just got used to it. It helps, however, that my ring is fit pretty snug to my finger. It sits in one place on my finger so if its not spinning or rocking back and forth and getting caught. I think you should go in and get both resized then soldered and that would probably help. I imagine it will be easier if it sits flush to your finger.

There are some things that might never stop catching on it. My big perpetrators are plastic grocery bags and sweater sleeves when I put my arms through.
