Ring Bearer Age

MaddyBelle, on May 11, 2016 at 7:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

I had originally planned on having our son as the ring bearer for our wedding. He'll be 19 months. Any thoughts on if he'll be too young? I know young children can be a bit of a wild card during the ceremony but I for sure want him to be a part of it. So any suggestions for anything else he could do are welcome!

Dress him as ring security instead?

I have a 19 month ring bearer. He is walking with his 4 year old brother.

I nanny them, and just had to have them.

I think the key is to not expect perfection. I'll update how it goes in my BAM next week.

Is there a flower girl that's older and can walk with him? Or he can just walk with a member of your bridal party!

Mine will be 18 months. He'll be walking with his sister but if he doesn't make it, oh well.

Those boys are adorable! I like that idea.

And yes, I'm thinking I'll have to just let it happen how it's going to. I guess the least of my concerns may be him walking down the aisle vs. possibly screaming and running around during the ceremony!

I was thinking my nieces would both be flower girls. They'll be 3 and 5. So I'm thinking that could help.

Mine was 18 months. His parents were in the BP so he walked in with them! Don't have too many expectations. I told his parents a white shirt and black pants. I bought a little red tie for him. He wasn't available for pictures because they were during his nap time. So we got pics with him after the ceremony Smiley smile he also got antsy standing up during the ceremony, so when he was done he went and sat with my dad. Make sure he has someone he can go sit by and don't be upset if they want to do that

My son is 3 years old and he will be our ring bearer. If it doesn't go as "planned," oh well he's my baby! People will understand and be patient if it isn't the smoothest walk down the aisle, I'm sure they will be too distracted by how cute he looks.

I'm having two ring bearers (my son and best friends son) and two flower girls ( my nieces) the boys are 4 and 3 where as the girls are 6 and 3. So that being said I'm having the flower girls pull the ring bearers down the aisle in a red wagon since the boys love riding in the wagon haha

My niece will be flower girl. She will be 13 months at the time of our wedding. She is walking down with my sister who is my Matron of Honor. I know there will be screaming since she will be tired but I really want my niece there!

I've been to 2 weddings, that had 3.5 year old ring bearers. The last one was all over the place, during the service. It ended up his mother/bridesmaid held him. He was kicking and yelling, by the time they walked back, in the recessional. At the reception, he was acting up on the dance floor, so no one could dance on a big section of it. He spent most of the reception with no jacket or shirt, and it was not warm.

In the other wedding, I was in the bridal party. All I can say is at least he was quiet. The service started at 7:00 PM, after hours of photos. He was all over the place, during the ceremony, too. He held the groom's hand, during the vows, he kept walking up and down the aisles, he crawled under the bride's ballgown; his mother/bridesmaid couldn't corral him. He also almost tripped the photographer.

Now I can see why a lot of churches insists on a minimum age, for the bridal party.

You can give him just the pillow (no rings on it) since that age can be unpredictable!

What about holding a sign that says 'here she comes' but you never know, he could be totally fine with the rings! Worth a trySmiley smile

@Beach Babe: And people wonder why some choose to have adult-only weddings! It definitely depends on the child's behavior and temperament, though that can (and often does) absolutely get thrown off by being the center of attention and expected to "perform" in front of a group of people he may or may not know. The sign idea is a good one that will be entertaining and may encourage him to walk down the aisle, if he feels inclined to show it off =) Sometimes it's helpful if they walk with an adult in the BP or have a family member essentially on guard in case they need someone to run to.

My ring bearer and flower girl will be 2. My 12 year old niece is going to pull them and hold a sign that says "uncle ... here comes your girl"
