Ribbon on Glass

Jae, on January 20, 2014 at 9:14 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

I'm planning to put ribbon on my glass vases for my centerpieces, and wanted to know if anybody has a suggestion of a way to attach ribbon to the vase that I can take off later (to resell the vases). Will hot glue work? FH suggested double sided tape but I don't know if that'll hold well. Here's a mock-up of what my centerpieces will look like.

I'm not sure about the ribbon questin - but I love your table numbers!

Why don't you try a few different methods on an extra vase - the first thing that came to mind was rubber cement because I know you can peel it off most surfaces but I dont know it will allow the ribbon to sit flat without bubbling

Hot glue will work and come off but it will be a giant pain in the ass. I'm not sure of other options though.

Thanks @FutureMrsP! I will definitely experiment on an extra vase first. I didn't think of rubber cement, usually I go to that for paper but that might be one to try.

I'm afraid with velcro it'll make the ribbon bulge out wherever the velcro is =\

You'll see a lot of these options through the glass on the other side. It might not be as noticeable with frosted votives, but I don't know for sure.

I think the rubber cement will seep through the ribbon too.

To answer your question, glue dots have tons of uses, but you can find them in the scrapbook section. They come in a variety of sizes.

I'm only putting ribbon on the tall vase, nothing on the candles. And I don't care so much if you can see it through the other side, I just don't want the ribbon to bulge out from the glass or fall off, ya know?

Rubber cement would not seep through the ribbon. It's too thick for that to work.

Glue dots may work though I'd worry that the ribbon would be too heavy for it to really stick.

What about a small piece of scotch tape to hold the ribbon to the glass, overlapping the edges a bit, and gluing the other end of the ribbon to the actual ribbon itself?

@acrossthestars I thought of that too, I just wouldn't want the ribbon to slide down (it's going around the top rim). I'm transporting them 4 hours to my venue, so I'd need them to hold in the box and then, of course, at the ceremony.

Glue dots makes a removable dot- just make sure you're buying the right one because they also have a permanent one that is super hard to remove. You could also use hot glue, but I would use a minimal amount so you don't have to scrub.

Glue dots are a good idea but you can also buy clear double sided tape that's a runner for easy application

    I think it's cheaper too

What about 3M hook products. You know the hooks you can hang anything on and take off with no mess, just use the tape stuff.
