Reuse ceremony chair flowers for reception?

Katie, on July 25, 2017 at 2:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 21

I'm having trouble dealing with the price for the flowers for the ceremony...I mean, it's literally 30minutes and then they're just going to go into the bin?!?!

So. I was thinking of asking if we could re-use the flowers from the ceremony for the reception tables; does that sound feasible?

I just can't deal with wasting £300 for 30 minutes (we are also having a floral arch for the ceremony)

The guests will be having appetisers between the ceremony and dinner (around 1hr) so I think there must be enough time for them to move them - but wanted to know if this was even a 'done' thing?

I did this for the exact reason you stated. Pay and arm and a leg for ceremony flowers and again for reception. Silly. If you want to do this keep in mind what type of center pieces you want. I only had flowers on my arch and my wedding coordinator placed a flower or 2 in the gold bottles I selected. Sometimes even scattered some petals on a table. Additional extras was used on cake table. Here's a pic of the arch.

Cake table. It is 100% doable. Just may require some planning.

@Chantel - they're beautiful thanks for sharing. Going to speak to my wedding planner and see what she says Smiley smile

Not sure how hard, or not, it is to move the flowers from the chairs to the tables Smiley laugh

That's definitely an acceptable and well-used idea - I would delegate that job to a family member or someone who would feel important if you gave them a task for the wedding!

I am all about saving that $$$!

We are doing something like this for ceremony decorations and then moving them to the cocktail tables.

We did this! We reused the draped greenery from the church lecterns on our sweetheart table, and the pew arrangements turned into the cocktail hour table decor.

Just make sure you have someone (NOT you) in charge of picking them up, transporting them, and putting them where you want them.

If you have vases hung from your chairs, you can easily transition them to tables by cutting the hanging ribbons off

We are having hanging jars from the chairs for the ceremony and a big garland arch piece and both items will be moved to the reception for the décor there.

Most of my wedding ceremonies use the centerpieces on the aisle and in the alter space. But yes, some has to be in charge of moving things. Some of my florists leave a person or two behind, especially if there is an archway to be moved.

    @Chantel, I LOVE your arch!!!

We're doing minimal flowers upstairs for the ceremony. Just petals lining the aisle (which can't be reused) and an arch (which will be reused as the backdrop for our sweetheart table). But, if we had more flowers, I would DEFINITELY reuse!! The most important thing if you're moving flower arrangements is that you have a professional around to move them and place them properly.

All of our ceremony flowers were moved to the reception space, granted we had everything all at the same venue. The flowers used for the altar went on the gift table and the aisle caps went in between the family photos we displayed.

I think it's a great idea. We are doing something slightly similar (as in double use of flowers to save money). My bridesmaids bouquets will become centerpieces at the reception. My cousin did this at her wedding I was a BM in and I thought it was a great idea and gave us something to do with the bouquets instead of awkwardly sitting them on a table.

I had this bright idea yesterday! We are going to have decorated (with twine, burlap, and lace) quart sized mason jars filled with flowers lining the aisle for the ceremony, and will be moving them to the reception for centerpieces. Our venue has both ceremony and reception at the same site, so I have designated each bridal party member a jar/table, our parents, and our coordinators.. Should be a quick 2 minute transition. It makes me feel so good knowing im not wasting those beautiful flowers after a 15-20 min ceremony. How wasteful! Super excited about the idea actually! Smiley smile

Rock on, girl! I am using my bridal bouquet, and BM bouquets to decorate our cookie table. The florist will leave four vases on the table for us, and we'll just pop them into the vases when we get there.

We are doing this. our florist actually suggested it. she is tying the pew decorations around the chairs at the head table, using the altar arrangements on the bar and gift table, and repurposing bridesmaid bouquets as cocktail centerpieces. we have paid her extra to do all the set up/moving of flowers.

I did this! I used lanterns and flowers as centerpieces and had the florist use them to line the aisle along with two large arrangements by the alter. The lanterns with flowers were moved to my reception tables and the large arrangements were used at the entrance.

Aisle picture. Simple but pretty and o didn't have to pay twice.

We are doing this with the flowers in Mason jars hanging from shepherds hooks down the aisle. They will be moved to the tables as part of the centerpiece for the reception.
