Return address on back flap of envelope?

Sos0033, on July 18, 2017 at 11:02 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

I just read a "PSA" post on another website from a couple who put their return address on the back flap of their invitation envelopes. They ended up having a bunch of the invitations come back to them because some of the envelopes were put in the machine upside down and it read their address as the "send-to" address. We sent out test invitations and they were fine, but now I'm nervous some won't be delivered. Anyone else run into this problem?

I did ours on the back flap because the calligraphy was pretty big on the front and made it look cluttered. I sent out roughly 90 invitations, I had one that came back to me for some reason (possibly that reason)...so I confirmed the address and mailed it a second time, It got there no problem. I would not be overly concerned about this.

We did ours on the back too. Sent out about 65 STDs and invitations that way and no problems whatsoever.

I've been slightly concerned about this after reading a similar post, but after doing some research it seems like this RARELY is an issue. I also heard you can ask them to hand stamp them instead of putting them through the machine, although I'm not sure how excited the postal workers would be about hand stamping 100 invitations. I do have our return address on the back flap for aesthetics, but I do plan on walking them into the Post Office and pointing that out and asking if they can do anything to make sure there isn't a problem.

I sent out STD's with Return address on the back and so far none have come back. All my life I've always put return address on the back so hopefully invites go smoothly!

ETA I do wonder how all that works, if it's reading the back side of the envelope as the front, how is it mailing it if there's no stamp on the "front"?

I sent both my Save the Dates and Invitations that way (with the return address on the back), and had zero problems. You'll be fine.

I did this for my save the dates. 69 sent out and 2 came back for what I am guessing is this reason (the addresses were right). I just sent them back out and they got there fine.

Our return address was on the back flap of the envelope and we have not received any returns and we mailed them out weeks ago.

Our address is on the back as well. We just sent them Friday and so far no issues. I've had few people text to say they've received them. It's still early though. I'll keep an eye out though.

Our address was on the back of both our STDs and invitations, and we did not have any issues with returns (though one invitation never made it to the destination).

We sent about 35 invites and the same number of STDs about 6 months earlier, all with the address on the back flap but had no issues!

Our return the address was on the back of our STDs and we received 2 back with that same issue. We just took it back to the post office, explained what happened and they fixed it.

We used an embosser with our address on the back flap with no issues. Make sure you ask them to hand cancel and the problem can probably be avoided.

Mine was on the back flap I just mailed them out last week and it hasn't been a problem yet. A few people contacted me and said they got them.
