Return address ideas

FutureMrsFrench, on June 2, 2016 at 12:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

I'm sending out our engagement party invites this week and my question is how do I address the return labels? I've heard several different ideas like "The Future Mr. and Mrs." or just my name because im keeping track of the RSVPs. We live together, but we both have long names to put both our first and last names is a lot.

What have you all done?

Our address labels just said our first names and we actually left last names off of it. Just Dan & Bethany. that way we could use them during the planning and wedding and after if we still had some left over.

Where did you get your labels? Did you do a stamp?

Ours just say Lauren & Joey. We didn't include the last name at all so that we could use them before and after the wedding. We live in the same house.

We didn't have an engagement party so when it came time to send the wedding invitations, I just put my name for the return address area even though FH and I were living together.

We're hosting the party, yes. I was planning on doing our first names only so just John & MaryAnn but I always like to hear what others have done! Smiley smile

    Thank you ladies!

We have our first and last names and our shared address. It's no secret to the guests that we live together.

@Miss S everyone knows we live together, but our first and last names both on it would be really long for us personally.

I think we're settled on doing both of our first names

I bought a stamp with just our first names. Our full names wouldn't fit on the stamp. I plan on getting a new plate for our stamp afterwards that'll have our last name instead, but I'm only doing that because we will be moving shortly after the wedding and will have to update the address as well. Luckily I got a stamp with cheap plates so it won't cost a fortune.

I bought a stamp on Etsy the said "The "Last Name" Family" for our shared address because I will going to be using it long after the wedding.

I made a stamp with Vista print, the first line is our last name (I'm taking his) then it says our names on the next line then our address. I liked it since I'd be able to use it for wedding stuff and continue to use it afterwards.

We didn't do any STD items, but our invitations came with the return address printed on the flap. And that's literally the only thing: our address. No names. That may be an option for things like this, to, if you think the mail is likely to arrive properly. (I've heard stories about apartment living and how mail won't be left if there's no name on it)

I matched my return labels to our invites (from Zazzle) and I wrote my full name and his full name on the second line and the address beneath it. I don't think many people will think too much into the return label. Do as you like.

A calligrapher told me that on invitations it's "customary" or "proper" -- or whatever the correct word is -- to use just the address, and not the names, and to put it on the back side of the envelope. Obviously there are other ways to do it, but knowing that she does this often, I would agree with @Zaz that you could do that on your engagement party invitations, too.

Hmmm I had the calligrapher just put our address with no names on the back of the envelopes. I guess we will see how that works out.
